Pics certainly were not taken yesterday…or it is a long way from the UK (leaves falling ,non uk cars in the background).
Sent him a mail just in case it’s genuine:w00t:
The guy just sent me loads of pics of it…looks a bargain. I’ve said I’ll have it and asked how we do the deal… I’m guessing he isn’t going to invite me to his home, pay cash and ride away:)
Really?
We do have green grass and green wheely bins.
Is there a rule to say that the photos must be recent? Although it is only fair that they should be. Surprise - we have autumn and imported cars.
Of course, the photos might not have been taken in the U.K., bikes can be imported from long away as well.
Or the owner at the time the photos were taken is more familiar with Fahrenheit and so set the digital dash accordingly.
Jeez! Some people are so negative about Gumtree!
I have bought and sold many bikes (I’ve had a few) and other items through the site and even found accommodation and not had a problem.
Yes, it is open to people trying to pull a fast one and obviously stolen items, but as a conscientious person, you just have to keep away from them when you’re in doubt - it’s not hard, common sense really. This advert is an example of one I wouldn’t consider looking at.
I don’t mean to rain on the Gumtree haters’ parade, but I thought I’d defend what I see as a helpful site.
If the bike is genuine (the bike pictured and with all relevant documents and in decent condition) for that price, then someone will be very happy! Good luck with the transaction!
Miles and Fahrenheit are only in use in America. Even Canada and Mexico it’s neighbours use metric.
And as for Gumtree every time it is mentioned it is about a scam or stolen goods. When I have tried to use it the results were poor. There are far better alternatives old there without having to worry about is this a scam, or am I going to get my head caved in.
The fact that it has been removed is just more prove.
If the owners cannot be bothered to regulate the site then people will always associated it negative connotation.
I’m not sure you understood what I meant - I was suggesting that as the dash is digital, it can probably be changed to the wishes of the owner (who might have been American), irrespective of the country.
Afraid I disagree that ‘every time it is mentioned it is about a scam or stolen goods’ - the cup is half empty for some of us; sorry you have had a bad time with the site.
I find Pistonheads a better site to buy bikes on TBH as it is a little more focussed.
Which do you use?
I guess there is a trade-off between the site being free to use and the site being open to abuse from the unscrupulous. I’m glad there is somewhere quick, easy and popular that everyone can use; it wouldn’t be the same if I had to pay for the same service.
I think the idea is great, as always its buyer beware, dont part with the cash unless you walk away with the goods that you have checked first, its simple. dont go to check something out with the cash on you either…
