How old do I have to be to ride a 250cc dirtbike offroad

q

I’m really not sure… should be on some .gov site… I’d guess ebcause it’s offroad, you can start at any age, or maybe 16.

Check and be sure though

Any age on private land with permission from the owner, no?

If its offroad (on private land) and not on green lanes (which are road legal roads) u can be any age

Does that mean that i can’t use my cross bike (no lights, no number plate) on green lanes?

any age on private land…

Green lanes fall under number of ‘concepts’ -i.e. bridleway, footpath etc…the list below explains the traffic allowd on each…

  • A footpath has pedestrian rights.
  • A bridleway allows pedestrians, horse traffic and cyclists.
  • A restricted byway (RB) allows pedestrians, horse traffic and vehicles other than mechanically propelled vehicles (e.g. bicycles, horse-drawn carriages) - replaced the Road Used as a Public Path (RUPP) classification
  • A Byway Open to All Traffic (BOAT) which can be used by 4x4s (SUVs) and motorcyclists (that are road legal - because it has the same rights as any “normal” road).
  • An Unclassified County Road (UCR). They are a way that is maintained (repaired) at public expense but whose public rights are uncertain. They all have minimum of footpath rights but often have higher (i.e. bridleway or vehicular) rights. They are not shown on the definitive map. UCR simply means they are shown in a list required to be kept under section 36(6) of the Highways Act 1980 (c. 66) (list of highways maintainable at public expense),

Parham Let’s keep it simple.

On private land with the owners permission you can ride whatever you like, any size, at any age, even a completely unroadworth rat bike.

To underscore, that’s on private land, with the owners permission.

Getting the bike there and back is a major problem. You’re not even alowed to push the thing along the public road, footpath, bridleway, greenlane, whatever if you are not legal to ride it with licence/tax/insurance/MoT all in place.

If it’s daytime road legal, taxed, etc., you can get someone else with insurance to take it to the private land for you and even ride pillion if they are insured for pillion passengers.
