How do you get a disk lock off???

My immobiliser has just killed my battery again, so I’m finally admitting defeat and not using it any more for overnight parking. I’ve got a big Almax chain on it, and a Xena disk lock, but, this got me thinking - how the hell would any thieving git get the disk lock off??? I can’t see any way they can get through to the barrel with an angel grinder.

Do they just chop through the whole thing? Or is it one of those things that puts off everyone except the most hardened of bike thieves - i.e. 3 big c***s in a white transit.

As I said I’m not looking for a master class in removing disk locks, just some ideas on how someone might if they were that way inclined, so I might be able to avoid it…

Probably best to not provide clues to the more clueless crims on a public forum on How To’s… , but there are a whole bunch of ways. Many of them resulting in damage to the bike.

If it’s a 10 grand bike, take the wheel off and buy a new one would be a good start…

The clue is in the title just shrink it a bit …

How do you get a disk off :hehe:

theres quite a few ways…none of which i will post on a public forum!:w00t:

Ok people, whilst I appreciate the need for secrecy, I doubt there are an army of potential bike thieves just waiting for the next post to appear in this topic!

However, it would appear that the answer is…not easily - apart from the obvious way. And if someone is going down that route, I imagine they’re not going to be your opportunist type.

bl00dy hell, that was easier than picking my nose!

That’s why I’ve got a differernt style of lock of my disk lock now (Oxford Monster currently, because it came with the bike…would always recommend the Xena Alarm ones though)

thats what I was thinking!

Don’t fool yourself that they don’t read what’s on here. They do.

BIC pens are far more effective at getting into that type of lock than that device, or even the key :hehe:

If you own one of those locks, put it in the bin immediately :w00t:

if blokes turn up with a van they wont take the disc lock off they’ll just pick the bike up and chuck it in a van.

i know you got almax hopefully its chained to something cos you have already told us you aint using the immobiliser.

If you read this month’s Motorycycle Sport & Leisure magazine, you’ll find out - not just for disk locks, but for every other form of security as well. After reading the article I was left thinking that there is no security device on earth that will make a jot of difference to a thief that wants to take your bike.
