My immobiliser has just killed my battery again, so I’m finally admitting defeat and not using it any more for overnight parking. I’ve got a big Almax chain on it, and a Xena disk lock, but, this got me thinking - how the hell would any thieving git get the disk lock off??? I can’t see any way they can get through to the barrel with an angel grinder.
Do they just chop through the whole thing? Or is it one of those things that puts off everyone except the most hardened of bike thieves - i.e. 3 big c***s in a white transit.
As I said I’m not looking for a master class in removing disk locks, just some ideas on how someone might if they were that way inclined, so I might be able to avoid it…
Probably best to not provide clues to the more clueless crims on a public forum on How To’s… , but there are a whole bunch of ways. Many of them resulting in damage to the bike.
Ok people, whilst I appreciate the need for secrecy, I doubt there are an army of potential bike thieves just waiting for the next post to appear in this topic!
However, it would appear that the answer is…not easily - apart from the obvious way. And if someone is going down that route, I imagine they’re not going to be your opportunist type.
That’s why I’ve got a differernt style of lock of my disk lock now (Oxford Monster currently, because it came with the bike…would always recommend the Xena Alarm ones though)
If you read this month’s Motorycycle Sport & Leisure magazine, you’ll find out - not just for disk locks, but for every other form of security as well. After reading the article I was left thinking that there is no security device on earth that will make a jot of difference to a thief that wants to take your bike.
