How do i get my bike on the Motor Insurance Database

My scooter (driven by my gf) was stopped a second time by the police and she was again told that she is not insured.

she clearly is but the bike is not on the police MID… MCE (bastwards) say that they cant do anything. that they have no way of updating the police database…

so how do i get the bike on the MID…

btw its not on askmid either ??

silly thing but have you checked the insurance policy on the scooter? was just thinking if they have a digit or number wrong of the reg plate etc.

It’s the responsibility of your insurer to give the information to the MIB. Call them and let them know that you’re being stopped as a result of not being on the database.

Totally agree - check to see if all the details are correct.

It is your insurer’s responsibility to make sure that it is on the database. Complain if they don’t deal with it. If they still don’t deal with it, then ask to speak with their Compliance Officer. If that still doesnt work, PM me and I will source their name…

Not on.

Or send Gabs round to kick some arse!

When was the insurance taken out? It can take over a week for it to finally appear on the MIB database, and therefore the police database. As has also been mentioned, check the registration number on your insurance certificate to make sure it’s the right number.

You can check yourself to see if the bike is shown insured on the database, just visit

http://www.askmid.com/

I had a job getting a tax disc for my bike last week because the insurance wasn’t showing up on the database :frowning:

The online tax disc service won’t work until it’s updated! I ended up having to get my fella to pop into the Post Office and do it for me first thing on Saturday as I was riding to Belgium and didn’t want to be without a tax disc.

I was told it takes a minimum of two weeks to show up!

thanks for the replies guys…

the policy was taken out about 4 months ago!

after a run around MCE said that they have forwarded the details (again) to the insurer and they should contact the police database

they said this should be solved by tonight… i am not holding my breath tho.

That is a **** poor response from the brokers - it takes seconds to put a vehicle on the MID.
You can check if it’s registered by going to : http://www.askmid.com/
Trouble is, if you get pulled out of office / call centre hours and the old bill can’t check the details with your insurance company then they will probably seize the vehicle and you’ll have to go see Jools at the vehicle pound to get it back, so the insurers need to get this info online as quickly as possible - especially with the growing numbers of ANPR cameras out there.

Funny you say that, last year my bike could not be found on the http://www.askmid.com/ at all… I didn’t pay much attention to it and never bothered chasing them up. I though that if I get pulled over I can always show them the certificate.

Just checked my plate now and it is on it… so I assume my previous insurer never bothered putting my bike on it… or maybe http://www.askmid.com/ is not connected to same database as police is?

Askmid is just a portal so you can check the database that the police use.
It’s the Motor Insurance Database, and your insurer is obliged to add your vehicle to it when insurance is purchased.
It is this database that the police use - they are the biggest customer of the MID, along with DVLA.

well im still not on the database… called them and they said it will take 7-1o days!!

 FFS

Takes ages for a few keystrokes…useless blinkers.

Morning , Sounds very fustrating ! My name is Dominic Edwards of MCE Insurance and Of Course there is something we can do - we just need your personal details and we will get straight on it. You can e-mail me at [email protected].

We are an Insurance arranger and of course will put it right PLUS investigate why the insurer has not placed on the MID (Motor Insurance Database).

Speak soon

Dominic.

Nice plug Dominic

hey all

question: My plates are on askmid but reporting this result:

The details on the MID are:

Vehicle Make/Model:DUMP CODEMOTORCYCLESWhat does that mean? My old bike had the make and model :w00t:

CHeers

Is your bike a chinese model or some other small volume make? It sounds as if the MID database doesn’t recognise your make/model. I wouldn’t worry about it, so long as insurance is shown held against your index you should be fine

Thanks Johnse1 :)It’s an Aprilia Pegaso Strada, I would have assumed it be known but as you say it comes back as a known plate so should be OK.

my bike nealry got siezed by the feds last year cos of the same problem, luckily my girlfriend was in so she gave the feds my policy details and after further checks all was ok so they sent the tow truck away 1hr and 40+ minutes i was on my way again.

went to tax my new bike online this week only to find its not insured AGAIN,

i sent adrian fux an email telling them how incompetent they are and if they dont sort it they can, ‘‘stick it where the sun doesnt shine’’ [politely of course]and i will go elsewhere for my insurance. strangely enough they seem to have sorted it now…

Hi ! Just a quick note to confirm we have sorted the problem with getting your bike details listed on Motor Insurance Database and we have spoken to the Insurance Company concerned to ensure they recive the down load with your information ready for the MIB.

We have also shown your complaint to our staff as a training tool. MCE insurance will always help and assist if you do have problems with your insurance policy -

Any questions just give me a shout !and I have e-mailed you directly the full lowdown

Dominic:)
