HELP HELP HELP

Hi All,

I haven’t been able to start my bike since the Kent Ride out… it just won’t have. Is there anyone local to West Wickham who wouldn’t mind popping over to have a look - I desperatelt need it for the BCW on Saturday!

PM me or email me ([email protected])

Thanks,

xxx

Hope you get it sorted. What are the symptoms and what have you already tried?

Simple things you should be able to do yourself -

Make sure the battery connections are good - they can get loose with vibration. Been riding with someone when this happened to them.

Make sure the spark plug leads etc are all connected firmly - they can vibrate or get knocked loose. Common problem on some bikes.

Make sure it really has petrol in it - you won’t be the first person to be caught out by a faulty fuel gauge, blocked fuel filter etc. It has happened to me.

Will it start with jump leads from another vehicle for example? Borrow a charged car battery for example. Bike batteries can die without warning. It has happened to me.

is it just the battery, will it go on a bump?

If I wasnt working nights id be over there meself…

come on peeps…someone sort this out for the lady please…

Another thing - check the fuses, and of course make sure the engine cut out switch is in the right position, everyone has been caught out by that at least once!

If the bike just won’t do anything when you hit the starter and all the above I have mentioned is OK, check the sidestand cut-out switch isn’t broke. This can usually be done by unpluging it and shorting it out with a bit of tin foil or similar, Jackie had this happen to her GTR1000 once. I spent all night lying awake thinking baout why the bike wouldn’t start as I had checked everything. At 2am the idea of the sidestand switch occured to me. I got up, went down to the bike with a bit of foil and it started straight away. I don’t think the neighbours werep pleased, but I did get to sleep after that!

Hi Ginger,

Give us some more info what happens when you start, does the bike remain silent or does it try to crank over this can help narrow down on things.

Start with the easy stuff first.Turn bike ignition on and do the instrument lights come on? Do you hear any noises?

If yes pull in clutch and push the starter button. What happens? Does the engine turn over?

Panic Over…
