??HELP?? CARBURETTORS??

is anyone a bit special when it comes to carbs???

when i try and start the bike fuel just pishes out of the 2 overflow pipes (atleast thats what i think they are?)

when the bike is running it does the same?

can anyone help as the Haynes manual doesnt go into it much???

You sure thats not the pipes used to drain the float bowls on the carbs?

If it is, the fuel will stop flowing out if the engine is stopped, if running, it will continue leaking out, as the bowls are being refilled.

the drainage taps are closed? the four things sticking out the bottom, but there is two pipes that go to nothing but pish out fuel exactly like the drainage taps would when the engine is running

its starting to do my head in. i hope its somthing simple!!

would they be the breather pipes??

take the float bowls off the bottom of the carbs and give them a good clean out, or if it’s been standing for a while the needles get a bit gunged up,where the petrol emulsifies, other than no idea!!!

Sounds like either float height or punctured float.

Could you have put the needle valves in upside down when you had them apart?

It sounds to me like it’s the overflows from the float chambers.

If there’s a hole in the float, it’ll fill up with fuel and not float, which causes the fuel to run out of the overflow, but the bike will still run the same.

will check em now!

dont think it is a punctured float though, it doesnt have time to fill up with fuel! the bike is just being put back together so no fuel has gone through the carbs since theyve been cleaned!

i put them on connected everything up, turned on the ignition and pressed the starter button, turning, turning, turning fuel pishes out, turning, engine fires fuel still pishing out!

but! i’ll check the floats now!

Simple way to check the floats is to shake them.

okay a couple of picks of the pipes and where they connect!

ok, floats have been shaken! and also submerged! no bubbles!

no bubbles!! no idea!!

stripped em down completely, cleaned em out, then christof put them all back togther again!

connected it back together fired it up and hey presto not a drop of fuel from anywhere!! few bits of tweeking later today and she will be running sweetly!

cheers for the ideas/info on what to look for

in the end, think it was the pilot screws being slightly out! but cant say for sure as the whole lot got redone

yup, carb rebuilds…easy…

So, what actually cause a problem?

when i removed the pilot screws there were no rubber o rings on there but it stated in the manual there was sum there???

found some o rings then rebuilt the carbs and hey presto no leaks!!

well can be to sure cus i reset all the pilot screws, jets, main jets and cleaned everything out?? so it could be any of those, but the o ring bit is the bit that did it i think,

So what happened to the o seals you took off the pilot screws in the first plece?

Gina say’s that she never touched em!

and promised me that the carbs had been completely cleaned out and where ready to go back on the bike

they’re done now,

Thats the main thing eh?

It only needs the slightest bit of grit under a float valve to cause this.

Well done Team Mum
