Has anyone used Chinese Brake Discs?

My discs are loose on the Bobbins so require Changing.

The discs for my Bike are £140 a side, Ebay sell Chinese Rotors for £130 a pair, i know you shouldn’t scrimp on Brakes but i wanted to know if anyone had used them before. They could be good but people are just scared to use them due to the reputation people have given them (a bit like everyone who says Ducatti’s are unreliable but never owned one), I’m pretty sure if they were unsafe they would’ve been tested and banned from sale.

I’m not interested in the following answersBuy cheap buy twiceChinese stuff is crapDont scrimp on brake componantsBlah Blah Blah

What i want to hear is if anyone has actually used them before, everyone has an opinion on cheap chinese stuff but have they actually tried them??? If you have had them and think they are crap then thats what i want to hear.

I have cheap chinese Brake Levers and they are perfectly fine, never had a problem with them, they don’t feel like they are going to snap or give up on me, lots of people said not to get them but i did and i’m glad i did, the people who said not too had never used them so had no expieience of them so didn’t really have anything to go on.

This may be to general for you, but the problem with Chinese things isn’t some pan-Chinese quality standard, but the absence of one. Some Chinese-made stuff is really well-made, but some is awful. The standards generally are lower, and so companies may choose to set themselves higher standards and make more of a premium product, or they may wish to be the more stereotypical cheap-knockoff sort of company. The question isn’t “are chinese brake rotors awful” so much as “are these brake rotors awful”.

I’ve bought cheap Chinese disk rotors before and they’ve been fine. I’ve also had English-made ones break (admittedly on an MTB).

Cool, cheers, thats the exact answer i’m after. You’ve had expierience with them so you can give a proper reply.

On my DRZ I bought front from Hong Kong, I hadn’t had any issues. I use to go out Sundays do wheelies and stoppies etc, no issues.

As above though, some manufacturers set high standards, others don’t. I bought them from a company from Hong Kong which sadly I cannot remember the name of!! But they seemed really good in terms of decent communication, there english wasn’t that bad and shipping wasn’t so long either.

If I were you, check there feedback, ask them a few questions see what they say?

I think items from Hong Kong and China are getting better. TBH alot of the branded things get made there too

Nice one cheers.

That is what i thought, the Fairings used to be really crap but now they use Injection Moulding the fairings are much better. I’ve googled about the Discs and the only poor comments are from people who have never used them, everyone else who have had expierience with them all say they are up to scratch. I’m so torn between getting a nice set of Wavy Discs from HK/China for more than half the price of a set of OEM ones over here. The brakes is one thing i said i would never scrimp on but it just seems like such a good deal i’m really tempted, especially now a few people here have said they are up to scratch.

I’d go for it, have a handful of friends that’s had them no issues. Here’s what it looked like on my drz when I changed my rims!!!

Very Nice.

Decisson made

Erm, it would depend on how loose. There is supposed to be a little free play to allow for heat expansion.

I’ve not checked yet, but there is a defined Clunk when braking. i’m going to get the front wheel off later today and check the free play in the disc on the Bobbins, if it doesn’t feel like there is much play then i have to find where the clunk is coming from. I have a few things i think it could be, maybe the pads are loose in the Caliper and they are hitting the caliper when i brake or it could be the Fork legs (but these look perfect)

I was weighing this up for the aprilia when I had a bent one. as it was I found a 2nd hand one so didn’t need to but Jay on here told me he had Chinese ebay ones on his gsxr750 and used to use it for track days etc no problem.

When I was looking, there was a company in Wales that sold them and detailed exactly the type of steel used etc. There was also a hong kong seller who had exactly the same steel.

just a silly thought

have new bobbins fitted if the discs arnt worn why change bobbins are only glorified rivets

Can this even be done? Who would i go to for that?

I reckon you could be looking at, at least £50 to do that and considering a set of Discs from HK/China are only £125 a set is it worth it?

Found this place http://www.thediscdoctor.co.uk/index.htm

I’ve contacted them for a price on Bobbin replacement, and also a price on a set of Discs, if they are competetive to the HK/Chinese ones then i’ll use them as they will get here sooner

good luck. Alex Gold had a set so bent you could see it with a naked eye. i wouldnt touch them if they were giving them away.

let me know when you mount them, i’d make sure i’ll never stay behind you for any longer than a minute.

Alba? Behind anyone for more than a minute???

yeah, jokes aside Sam seriously dont do it. you will live to regret it and yes you would have to spend twice to replace them.

i cannot believe there isnt a good set of second hand discs for your bike on ebay. they usually come with warranty as they can be tested and returned if warped.

Speak to Big D, he may have a set of disks for a GSXR.

Alba likes sitting behind me as i keep catching her checking me out

I’ve had a play around and its not the Discs Bobbins, the disc is really tight with no play whatso ever, its the Anti-Rattle Bracket in the calipers, when i brake the pad moves the bracket and that in turn hits the caliper making the clicking/clunking noise, the bracket must be a bit bent out of shape. At least thats a cheaper fix than the actual Disc replacement.
