Carefull there Kevsta. St Patrick is the Saint of Ireland, alot of Protestant’s in the North (my ex wife included) don’t recognise him as ‘their’ Saint. Yes the Orange Order comes from old Bill the Clog. They have the 12th July (or the nearest Monday) as a bank holiday in Northern Ireland.
I worked for NATO a few years ago, that was a nightmare. Every other week was a ‘bank holiday’ for somebody! If it’s not the American’s ‘Martin Luther King Day’ it’s the German ‘All Saints Day’! We the Brit’s have the fewest bank holiday’s of all the NATO nations.
It’s just the usual religious symbolism that is as confusing as ever. Check Wikipedia for all the other countries that claim St. George as their patron, and the diseases he is patron saint of!
All it amounts to is a day when certain people can have a little more pride in the place they feel at home. Wave a few flags and try to find some English strawberries to eat in the park.
There should definitely be a holiday celebrating England.
