Oh! My leg brace was adjusted to allow 60 degree movement from straight today. I still cant ride until they allow my at least 90 degrees, so if anyone fancies exercising my bikes, drop me a line! Real Men only need apply to take out The Riot tho, look what happens when a ninny is let loose on it!:Whistling:
Mind you…I could ride standing up?:w00t: Oh no, MoonshineZZR nearly got his collar felt on The BCR doing that!
Well… as I never actually got to experience The Riot first hand I would be glad to take it out for a little spin (albeit at a slightly more sedate pace than yourself )
… and I’m not too far from you… and I got made redundant last month so I have a bit of time… etc. etc…
Sounds like good progress anyway! It’s not been that long?
When I broke my arm last winter, after about 4-5 weeks I had a checkup and the doctor said I could leave the brace off, I asked him when it would be ok to start riding the bike. He just started laughing and didn’t answer
Needless to say, about 1 hour after that I was wobbling about on my “new” bike which had then been in the garage for about a month :hehe:
Bed? I was out of hospital on the Wednesday, back in on the Thursday, Then on the train to work (Hatton Garden then Docklands) on the Friday! Back at the doctors on the Monday and back in Hatton Garden for the firms Christmas Gig on the Tuesday! I have hardly seen my bed!
Nah, just in a leg brace. I could prolly nearly bend my leg the 90 degrees now, its not the bone repair, its further ligament damage! I had the 18 staples out yest. I must not put any weight on it for 6wks from the opp. I was thinking this morning about when I’ll be riding but getting my leathers on and off with my knee ligaments having the properties of spaghetti at the mo dont seem like a good proposition!
Ooo nasty one Sneaky, looks like you have yourself a tibia plateau fracture, moto-Jim told me about your crash and I thought I would have a look to see how you were getting on. I know all about tib plateaus as I have the plate and screws in my left leg to testify. At least you got yours falling off a proper bike (if you could ever call the riot proper) and not a C90 at 5mph..
Good luck with your recovery, my knee’s really good now but I had loads of problems due to a bad case of compartment syndrome which fooked the nerves that control my ankle. Here’s a couple of my X-rays for comparison.
Oops, I added the pics whilst you were posting your reply.
Basically the bones muscles and nerves in the leg are each surrounded by a membrane and these areas are called compartments. The trauma of the operation to insert the plate can cause swelling inside these compartments and as the membranes do not give, the swelling will constrict whatever it surrounds. It turned out that post op the blood flow to nerve and muscle that control my ankle was cut off / restricted causing it to loose allot of its function. This means I have very little upwards strength in my ankle so I have to move my whole leg to change up a gear and I walk with a slight limp to stop me stubbing my toe into the ground as I walk. It was explained that compartment syndrome was a real possibility before I went down for the operation but it’s severity took everyone by surprise. I was in St Thomas’s for 19 days before they could find a brace big enough to go around my leg as it was so swollen. The link below has a bit more info. HTH.
LoL, it’s not a pissing contest that I would ever want to win, I just hope your recovery goes well. BTW, have you started physio yet?
I did the NHS physio but they seemed happy just to get me walking and send me on my way and I wasn’t happy with how I was left. In Jan 08, which was just short of 2 years since the accident, I decided to get a second opinion on the knee and saw a guy at the Chelsea and Westminster. He is supposed to be one the few guys in the country that premiership level footballs go to when they break a leg so I was interested to hear what he had to say. He was happy with how the reconstruction had been done and recommended more physio over having the plate and screws out as it had no drawbacks whereas further surgery could lead to more compartment problems. So I have been going to physio in Chadwell Heath and the legs is now 1000% better.
It’s not been cheap as they charge £40 for a ½ hour session and I’ve been having an hours treatment a week but I feel it’s been worth it plus the physiotherapist is really happy as the leg has responded better than he thought it would. He did mention that he wished that he could have seen me sooner after the accident, so if you don’t get on with the NHS physio treatment they might be worth a visit.
+1 for getting good physio.
Braking my arm and the NHS refusing to give me any physio is the only reason why I gave up my principles and got private medical insurance in case it happens again.
Bones repair fairly easily and quickly, but it’s the musles and tissue that take a lot longer to recover.
The Dr I saw 2days ago said get on to the Physio now cause it can take forever. I dropped the letter straight to King George’s on the way home from Queens. The Dr marked the papers urgent, but I cannot start physio until they give the brace 90 degrees movement, which will prolly be on next outpatients visit on Jan 28th. But the physio’s called today to say they start on Jan 6th! I have confirmed with the surgeons that its only after the 28th and its taken half a day for the physio’s to agree to make a booking for next month. They wanted to make me wait and book after the 28th, but I seem to have won through?
I’ll have your mans number pleasey, I am in Chadwell Heath!
