  • ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------Dear Supporter

Thank you for taking part in The Aviva Walk London to Breakthrough Breast Cancer last year. Having completed the walk myself I know how much energy it took to complete the distance and raise money so on behalf of all at Breakthrough, I’d like to say how much we appreciate your valuable contribution to our research, education and campaigning work.

As you know, initial plans have been put in place to run Walk London again in 2008. However, as the planning has developed further, we have had to take the difficult decision not to hold the event this year.

I understand this might come as disappointing news to you and completely appreciate that you might have already started preparing for the event so I hope this email sufficiently explains our reasons for the decision as well as suggests other ways you might like to continue supporting Breakthrough.

Key to our decision has been the feedback from walkers who took part in our 2007 event which all pointed clearly to the need for an even better event experience in 2008. To do that, we’d need to significantly increase the amount of money we spend on the event. We have also been unable to secure a sponsor for 2008, which means that we would have to cover even more of the event costs ourselves.

Taking these factors together, we do not believe the event of the future makes the best possible use of Breakthrough’s resources and your support. Breakthrough has a responsibility to provide our supporters with the most effective ways to raise money for our vital work and therefore always aims to ensure our events are not only an excellent experience for our supporters but that they also raise as much money as possible to fund our research, campaigning and education work.

As you can imagine, Breakthrough has been working hard behind the scenes to establish whether the event could be run or not and it’s only at this time we’ve been able to make a decision.

I appreciate that you might well have started preparing for the event. If you would like to redirect your support to other activities, I am really pleased to let you know our good friends at Walk the Walk have offered a limited number of places in three events (Edinburgh Moonwalk in June, the Bristol Sunwalk in July and the brand new Newcastle Sunwalk in September). If you are interested in these please contact us on the details below.

Alternatively, you might wish to take part in one of our UK treks, undertake an overseas trek, or organise a Crocus Walk. More information on all of these activities can be found at www.breakthrough.org.uk or by speaking to one of our team. We really value the support you have given us and we hope that you will be happy to get involved in one of our other events.

If you have any questions about this email please contact us at [email protected] or alternatively call us on 020 7025 2400.

Once again thank you for your support which has enabled Breakthrough to further our vital research, education and campaigning work.

Kind regards

Jeremy Hughes
Chief Executive

thats a shame.

Your not kidding !! ive booked the 14 seaters to help this years walkers who might have needed them !!!
that totally sucks and smacks of WTF to me…i mean, even taking into consideration what they are saying here, it seems that they havent even sat round the table and talked this through, with US even, who i thought were going to be more involved this year?..im sure the walkers would still agree to do it again this year, regardless if they want it better than last year !! the way i see it the only reason it was pants last year was cos the people who were supposed to give a **** and actually do the job they were employed to do, and who practically told us to pee off half way through the day, are the ones that ruined it…we all KNOW the walkers wanted us all there, all through the day right to the end…it was THAT fact that made them want better for us this year…and i was under the impression we werent going to let them down in that department !! So going by that letter, there is NOTHING going on in london this year for this charity?..they are suggesting walks all over the place BUT london…and its taken them 4 mths to decide they want out !!! Who wants to take part in a TREK?..most of the people who took on this great event, only did so because they knew they would be able to make it and that it was in london…so let me get this straight? IF they had found a sponser, they would have gone ahead?..

OKAY…peeps…dont worry…ive had a word with the “govenor”…and hes on the ball, as per…hes way ahead of all this and its gonna be bigger and better than before, and hes got his trusty sidekick M9 in there with him…so dont worry, leave it to the “big guns” barro stylee …and they will post up and let us all know whats to be…
THE BARRO IS BACK AND READY TO ROLL…

Well, that’s the email that they’ve sent out to everyne registered - I’ve already had calls form 3 dissapointed marathoners. If LB are going to adopt the event then I’d advise you to let the walkers know asap - as knowing them they’ll be looking for another event to sign up to instead.

let me know - thanks xx

;)Stay Tuned !!

typical aint it, hope something gets sorted out as its a worthwhile event

Sooo, I take it this aint happening this year?

Would have liked to have joined in

I was only talking to Trisckie about this on friday? I wouldnt mind but ive had the 14 seater booked with the company i work for Ford Motor co, since last year to make sure we got it, as they support many charities and people want use of it for all sorts…so now i have to look a right pratt and go and cancel it, after all this time, cos no one could be bothered to tell me otherwise, after i got text messages from barro to go ahead with the booking. No one from LB has said sod all either…wouldnt mind but someone who prob needed it wont know they can get it now cos they will think its booked out…know i will think twice in future before i help out.Im doing my bit for Essex Air Ambulance by marshalling the event and thats it for me !!

I enjoyed last years walk and i was looking foward to help out again.

I was looking forward to Butch & Sundance riding together again!

We made a good team Tim, together agin on the next one.

Absolutely mate, as long as Westie doesn’t threaten to scratch my eyes out!

I don`t think Westie loves me anymore since he moved back down.
