Cam chain adjusters do wear out. As for changing them, not an easy job I am afraid. Usually the cam chain itself needs changing first.
Yes CCT’s do wear out, is yours knackered? don’t know. The chain should wear at the same rate as the CCT but considering the bad quality of CCT’s over the last 15 years, some of which like the Honda CBR ones needed changing every few thousand miles if you were unlucky.
Easy job to as long as you cable tie the cam chain to the cam sprockets and even adding in changing the chain only adds an hour or so to the job. All takes a while as the airbox, rocker cover and often the carbs need to be removed as well.
I don’t know much about the camchain tensioner on your GSXR but on oil cooled GSX and GSXR motors the tensioner would move in a series of steps, so the camchain would sound a little bit loud when it was close to taking the next step, then go quiet when the step was made. On an old GSX 600 I was able to “cure” this sort of camchain rattle with a brisk 10-20 mile ride. If you decide you want it looked at by an expert I would recommend Galea Camchains of Wickford, Essex, phone 01268 735355.
Can anyone confirm if the new GSXR camchain tensioners work in the same way as the old ones?
Also 30000 miles seems a bit young for a camchain to wear out. I would expect it to last at keast twice that long.

Hi
got on my bike this morning and it started really noisy and then just went back to being quite again so i expect that the auto tensioner had sorted its self out.
Many thanks
