On my way to work this morning i spotted a grey camera - slightly larger than a gatso but nothing to do with congestion or traffic monitoring. Its a pretty hefty lump and has a two objective lenses like a gatso, Grey in colour and completely unmarked.
Spotted on A406 before brent cross intercahnge at the lights heading westbound. (Its Rear facing)
Heard someone mention something the other day in an unrelated topic about automatic licence recognition somethingorother??? is that what this is??? Are they finally spending money on stopping the real criminals who dont pay tax, insurance and MOT’s??? :ermm:
cool! now i know! although to be fair it shouldnt really affect any of us as its not the stopping for red lights i have a problem with… Its the setting off trying to get my front wheel in the air that is
Although in my first post… Id thought it would be an awsome idea if the police could invest money in somekind of reg recognition camera so they can crack down on non insurance and tax payers. Or does that exist??? It should do if not :ermm:
Aye, they have ANPR cameras on most traffic vehicles.Checks the reg no and flags up if it’s no MOT, Insurance or tax. They do have crackdown days - Jools dreads them cos it means the vehicle pound in Perivale where she works gets awful busy
glad they’ve finally painted that fecker yellow, im getting fed up of idiots slamming there brakes on at the last minute because they’ve only just realised what it is.
There’s a grey box camera on the A127 when it gets into Southend and becomes a 40 limit. It’s forward facing and just a little way after a rearward facing yellow gatso. It’s not at a junction so isn’t a red light cam.
What do you think this camera is for?
Could it be for anyone that sees the yellow gatso a little too late and rather than hammering the brakes, dives into the adjacent cycle lane which runs along the 127 at this point :Whistling:
I used to live in an area where they trialed the plate recognition cameras a few years ago and was amazed when my ex phoned me to ask what i was doing in town during the day.[ she worked on the cameras]
You can programme a reg no in and it will allert you if that vehicle is spotted.
There was also a cctv camera which could see within a few inches of my front door :w00t:…i got into a lot of trouble with her i can tell you !:ermm:
In Hungary we used to have to buy a permit for motorway - sticker on the screen. Loads of people just didn’t pay… Now there are number plate recognition cameras all over the place. No more stickers - just a fine if you haven’t paid and no way to avoid it.
There are now forward facing cameras to catch drivers/riders images in conjunction with the rear facing to catch the index, hence the mix of grey cameras and the old lovely yellow ones close together.
Nobody - until some unmarket police Passat happens to be behind you…
Or you flip the switch and fly through the camera, only to discover the battery’s given out. Or worse - the battery dies when it’s up, and you get pulled and they discover the device.
(Heh. Say what you like, I’m such an optimist, me.)
Talking of A3 and cameras, there were a couple of blue ones today hooked over the side of the bridge that carries the road linking Cobham and Esher. One either side.
Looked like some sort of test. Some hi-vis’d council (?) monkeys standing nearby. There at midday and still there at 3. Any clue?
Odd thing you should know people. Since, I think, March 1st this year when some new regulations came in, there is no compulsion for road cameras to be painted/plated yellow.
Yup. Now they can paint them green to blend in with the trees.
