So today, I’m riding down the road in Kentish Town with my pizza bike and two deliveries for the hungry pizza customers, as I notice a yellow Honda Zoomer scooter coming the other way. Not unlike the two yellow Honda Zoomers I imported from Germany and sold off some time ago…
So naturally, I notice, and I turn my head after it passes me… and notice the number plate:
“M735 EGK”
Wait a second… that seems familiar… eerily familiar… F***k!!! My stolen plate! I turn around and chase the bugger for a while until I overtake him, cut him up and force him to stop right in front of my pizza shop. Quickly I reach over, pull the keys out of his ignition and say:
“I’ll have my number plate back mate.”
The look on his face was brilliant!! Went into the shop, tried to find a screwdriver, couldn’t find one and came out with a very large kitchen knife instead (again great look on the guys face at this point!), unscrewed the plate with the tip of it and took it off.
“Oh and thats 20 quid for my replacement number plate or would you rather I call the police.”
He forks over the money and buggers off plateless…
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!
What do you guys think – should I take the matter to the authorities too? (I have three witnesses from work who saw me unscrewing MY plate from HIS bike.) I’m pretty much happy to just let the issue go… but what a laugh! And it shows: London is much, much smaller than you think.
Probably too late to go to the cops now, you should have called them when you had the rider. Stuff him in the pizza oven while you wait for the cops and he probably would have told you the name of the guy who sold the plate to him.
Dude I know the rider – it was the guy who bought one of my Zoomers! I still have all his contact details, e-mail address, mobile telephone number etc.
He was probably cheesed off at the process for getting a number plate for an import bike from the DVLA, but that’s not my fault – he bought it that way fully knowing he would have to go through the motions. Turning around and stealing MY plate from a totally different bike instead is just ridiculous.
Obviously this guy knew where I lived and one day just walked into my front garden and helped himself, the toe-rag!!
well done i personally would of smashed his face in however each to there own. and my mate said u should of raped him with a baseball bat with barbed wire on
IIndeed, good old slap is what the thief needs, won’t do it to you again, then report him - shouldn’t do it to anyone else either… - if he did - up the slap factor…
You’ve got to report him or he’ll just do the same thing again. Getting your plate back and the £20 sorts you out (well done btw) but what about the next victim. People like this need to be reported as that’s the only way to stop these things happening.
Reporting it is the right thing and you must do it, but don’t be shocked if the feds do nothing more than send him a “behave yourself” letter in the post!
Did you report it when it was knicked ? i had the same before and was given a crime reference report… as some of the replies hav already said, gone through cameras, petrol runs, the list goes on… i would have kept his bike key… not gonna argue with u with a knife in your hand
All good advice given and of course let the Police know but …
There may be problems evidentually in the fact that you let this guy go after getting your property back unless your mates at work are all willing to give witness statements.
Hint - Of course that knife you had in your hand was there only to unscrew the number plate and def not for no other reason - just in case the thieving shit attempts to make an allegation against you … I’m assuming your mates that witnessed this and will all sing of the same song sheet ?
If he’s done something like this to yours, he’ll do it again to someone else. Your choice at the end of the day but it really should be reported.
Yup, I have three witnesses from Pizza Hut that saw everything that went down and who are willing to testify on my behalf.
Honestly, I won’t bother though. He knows where I live and he might torch my bike if I do. As long as I can hang the threat of police action over his head I can be pretty sure he’ll leave me alone.
Yeah but whats to stop him doing it to someone else. Fine he wont approach your bike again but lets say he is another town, he will try it to see how far he can get as he got away this time.
You could also give the Police his details, let them know what happened and ask that they’re just made aware of it rather than you wanting him prosecuted ?
