Gone with a bang

Yesterday I started to start the bike and being a bit colder the bike did not start on the first time, so while trying to start I twisted a bit more gas and BANG!!!. Helluva loud noise coming out of exhaust.

Now I’ve had some noise coming out of exhaust before, but this was ridiculous, loud like a gun shot. I even looked behind to see if any window had broken :stuck_out_tongue: Ever happened to you??

Yup.

Problem is, there are so many things that can cause this. Well, sort of. It’s usually unburned fuel/vapour in the silencer being ignited.

But why is the fuel/vapour there?

Used to get this quite regularly with my old Virago 750. Happened once with my Bandit as I was taking the fuel tank off. That was unexpected, a big shock, I was totally convinced I was being shot at. Not sure what caused that one.

Happened on a friends Deauville several times. The culprit was the battery, only just had just enough power to turn the engine over.

We always thought you might have secret friends with Deauvilles;)

yep, i had that once on my fazer, i went to start it and it went bang, i jumped out of my skin thinking id blown the engine up or something lol… :stuck_out_tongue:

standard on carbed Harleys and Buells
