Gone in 60 seconds

Informative Programme about motorbikes being stolen in london and how they r sold. Watching now…7.30 on ITV

tuned in - isnt this about pushbikes?

R

still quite good, i’m sure some of our motrax etc chains and locks aint too much different from a 100 quid cycle chain lock. 48" bolt croppers and thats that in 3 seconds.

Disc lock and chain combo still aint gonnna stop 'em. If they want it and know what they are doing, they will get it, ground anchor or anything, and in less time than it takes you to eat a mars bar.

what bugs me is that pushbike thieves can sell on markets or on the street, and by nature are opertunistic. Motorbike thieves generally have to break them down for the bits, therefore they are by nature more organised.

Bolt croppers of any size can sit in the back of a van, disc cutters are now quite portable and can go through the thames barrier in quick-sharp time, and one lift into the back by 2/3 peeps and thats your bike gone with the wind, disc lock, immobiliser and due to londoners general apathy about loud, consistant noises, alarm or not.

Next thing you know its on ebay in parts.

Bugger i`m an hour late.

What did it have to say about Almax chains ?

What is there to say, they cannot be cut, all the others can.

http://www.youtube.com/user/CaptainCropper tests all chains, look at the videos, his blog http://www.captaincropper.blogspot.com/ has some good stories about how kryptonite, in particular, try to lie and hush it all up…

Thanks, I keep hearing this but they are twice the price of others, maybe worth the cash then.

Ok, whats Almax? i missed the program, dont supposd anyone with a pvr recorded it?

Hmm, that wasn’t hard…

LOL!

Seems to be a fairly major difference between ‘Case Hardened’ and ‘Through Hardened’. Case Hardened from what I can make out appears to be better as it protects the surface and prevents bolt cutters etc from penetrating/cutting through the outer layers, stopping the chain from being cut.

I spent a bit of time trying to decide what chain/lock combination to buy when I moved my bike down to London last year. Not one of the retailers in and around SW London that I asked about chains even mentioned Case Hardening, some did mention ‘Through Hardening’ and all that did recommended it over any other chain type, but I find it concerning that there is a better option that none of them knew about…

They are pretty pricey though.

If you say you’re a member of Visor Down when you order an Almax chain you’ll get a small discount and a Krieger (sp?) 10 bag.

I’ve seen the videos of Zanx from VD breaking chains but the Almax IV is too big to fit in the jaws of a hand bolt cropper.

It’s ditto for londonbikers

Darnit, wish I’d known that when I got my Almax IV. Great chain but so unweildy. Used to try and carry it with me but was wrecking my shoulder carrying it. Have one for home and one for the g/f’s now… Still doesn’t help unless you’ve got something hard to lock it to.

Ohhh! CC has some scathing remarks doesn’t he.
His blog takes some time to read, but it’s a bit of an eye opener.

Might just have to find some more beer token to allocate for one of these puppies:

obviously after reading all this i am thinking of gettinf an almax chain.

can someone explain the diff between the two locks sold (Stronghold Lock & 67 Lock)

finaly is there any point of having an almax if its not actually chained to anything? (thinkin this might be a dumb/blond question but hey… )
