Give way or expect the red carpet?

Riding in the middle of the traffic lanes, especially in Central London, we keep having to either give way to the oncoming bike or wait till they move in with the other cars so that we can pass.

Do you always move in as soon as you see another bike approaching from the opposite direction or do you wait for them to give you the right of way?

And does it make any difference if its a scooter :doze: or a sport-bike  that’s coming at you?

depends on where abouts i am at the time but once clear or a gap yeah i move out the way.

If I have a gap ( and I always try to have somewhere to go when filtering) then I’ll yield and try and give the other bike as much space as possible… I tend to be going the opposite direction to most of the traffic (into town in the evening and out of town in the morning) so I end up giving way to hundreds of bikes…

Ive never thought about it really, if im already in the gap i will go and the other bike will have to wait but if three`s someone already in the gap coming towards me i wait till he either passes of gives way to me.

I’ll give way if I can do so safely and give them space. All depends on the circumstances, I have given way to scoots and what not, makes no difference, it is all down to riding safely.

I’m not very experienced or extremely confident when filtering, so I often give way to riders that I assume to be more experienced; usually couriers or no [] L [/color]'s.
I’m not usually in a hurry to filter, so I will make a space for those that are in a rush to get somewhere; perhaps it’s not nice, but I often think that they should take the risk rather than me.

But I’ll only give way when it is safe for me to do so.

+1 on that. Let the ones who are in a rush take the risks and then hopefully I’ll be able to avoid any problems. I really dislike being at the front of a long line of filtering bikes and scoots as I always feel a lot of pressure. Oncoming bikes there doesn’t seem to be a set rule- it’s always seemed fairly intuitive as to who get’s right of way. If only the rest of the road users worked on that basis, the roads would be a whole lot clearer!!

+1

I’ll give way but not at all costs - if i see that they have a gap between cars to dip into whilst I go by then so be it. Sometimes its not practical for you to always give way as at times there just isnt any room to move into.

I know what i mean - but after reading that im confused!:hehe:
