Getting into top box with a broken lock

Ladies & Gents,

I have a Suzuki top box where the locking mechanism is just not working, I have some bits in it which I want out. Link below which shows the box I have (sorry it is an ebay link, and shows no lock).

I don’t want to completely destroy the thing but if all else fails i’ll get the angle grinder out!

Any suggestions?

Cheers, I have the key, that is not the issue it is just not turning so it is stuck locked

Ah right…

Big screwdriver into the lock and see if that turns the complete locking mech.
Otherwise try and drill it out?

WD40 or similar in the lock to see if that frees anything up?

Unloaded almost a whole can in there already :flushed:

Put pressure down on the lock area whilst trying to wiggle the lock at the same time?

You could maybe try knocking the hinge pins out with a punch if you’re in a hurry to get stuff out. But I reckon to undo the lock, you’ll need to do as Gavin suggests & drill/force it open.

If it was a Givi box, you can get spares pretty easily, so could cut open the plastic panel the lock sits in & see if that gives you access. But I don’t know if Suzuki do spares for theirs?

Large slotted screw driver push it into the lock and turn the locks aren’t that strong and offer little resistance

You could take it to a locksmith shop. My old CB500 had a key snapped and wedged in one of the locks. I took it to a Locksmith and he was able to unlock it with the key still wedged in it, then he removed the stuck key and re assembled the lock. Didn’t even charge me.

cheers all, sorry got side tracked with having to decorate.

I’ll try the screw driver / Drill thing, don’t really care if the lock gets knackered I’ve put a givi rack on the bike now anyway. Just trying to avoid destroying what is otherwise a good top box

Look to the hinges. Are they pins that you can push out with some force?
