Furygan Warrior Jacket (leaks like a sieve!)

Bought myself a furygan warrior jacket about a month ago and up until yesterday i would have said it’s a great jacket. Looks pretty smart decent pockets good thermal linear for winter and decent ventilation for summer, decent armour and all that. All in all i thought it was pretty good for the price.

HOWEVER…got caught in that heavy rain yesterday and after not much more than 5 minutes of rain the jacket was leaking serious amounts of water. First place to fail was the zips on both cuffs where i could literally feel the water running down my forearms into my gloves then the main zip down the front of the jacket started leaking, again very heavily leaving me well soaked. Even when the rain calmed down a bit it was still coming through, so much for their waterproof liner!

Really disappointing as it performed well in all other situations but totally crap in the wet.

will be replacing with some HG gortex to match my trousers!

Moral of the story… buy gortex

Goretex is the way to go…

I love my HG Tricky III suit…

Me too, well until I washed it. Despite a NikWax treatement and all by the book it is now a lot more porous than before.

Don’t forget that the cheaper kit with the waterproof membrane nearer you than the outer layer will eventually waterlog and then, water being water, will find a way in. Rukka and the HG Extreme Performance range have the waterproof membrane bonded to the outer layer (feels hard and inflexible in comparison) so no waterlogging occurs and hence much more waterproof.

Something like this I would imagine though Ratty might be able to clarify. I believe the words “Extreme wet weather construction” is what indicates an outer bond rather than the inner one.

Agreed, I have a mid range Rukka Jacket that I had four three years. Despite some of the weather I have ridden through never let me down, and it even stood up and remained water proof after a slide down Shellgrip.

Andrew which NikWax product did you use?

I have noticed that in lately it has started to get waterlogged… I thought it was because I hadn’t washed it… I treated it with Nikwax (wash and waterproofing after) a few days ago but it hasn’t had a drop on since… Shame I was hoping that would have fixed it but obviously not :frowning:

Nikwax is crap. Despite using it by the book, I find my gear is never quite as breathable afterwards (albeit still waterproof). It also doesn’t get anywhere close to cleaning your stuff - it still looks grubby afterwards. Anyone know of any alternative products that actually do what Nikwax is supposed to?

(in saying this, their glove proofer seems to work OK for about a 45 minute rain shower).
