Got a loaner 125 yesterday - a Suzuki RV125 Van Van. Brimmed the tank, did an 80 mile run, brimmed tank again before I handed it back, and… a fraction under 75mpg!
I was riding it flat-out most of the time, but I thought these 125s were all meant to be 100mpg+ easily, no matter how you rode them?
Not a bad little bike, but tortuously slow. Couldn’t ever see myself having to ride one daily, particularly when there’s 600cc+ bikes that get that kind of fuel consumption. :crying:
I had a Honda S-Wing (for six weeks and 2k miles). Over that time, my average mpg was 78.45 (best 91.15, worst 72.39). That’s based on brim-to-brim records. It’s “supposed” to do 100mpg, but real world seems to do a bit less.
By comparison, my GSX650f over some 4k miles has an average of 44.83 (best 58.74, worst 33.51), again on brim-to-brim. (It’s meant to do 50mpg)
75mpg sounds pretty good to me. MCN lists it at 90mpg, but that bike isn’t the quickest 125 around so I can imagine you have to thrash it constantly. Even a YBR125 or similar won’t do 100mpg if you are thrashing it constantly.
I used to get 115 miles on 6 quid of petrol with the Honda PCX I used to have. That was over a 100 mpg once you worked it out and I had it at WOT a lot on the A roads so pretty good.
I had a 2007 CBF125.
Always used it in central London, constant start and stop traffic. Mostly full throttle take offs as well.
110 UK MPG was the very worst I managed to get.
You got me worried that I wasn’t trying hard enough! When I click that link to Fuelly, they range from 76.8mpg to 99.6mpg. I got 74.75mpg (not being precise or anything). One thing I did realise riding it is that even for a tiddler and being way slow compared to bigger bikes, it’s still waaaayyyyyy more fun than most cars. The last time I rode a 125 was 7-8 yrs ago. I struggle to see why your average 17 yr old is so desperate to get behind the wheel of a car when bikes like these trounce them every time on both the cost and fun factors.
that’s strange… when i first checked fuelly i saw different figures, after logging in i see yours, now i can only see the first ones using a different browser, weird… here’s a screenshot of the top 4…
My average after a year commuting on a CBF 125 is 107mpg, always in stop and go traffic in central London. The very worst I managed to get out of a tank was 96mpg.
My CB250 is averaging 80mpg with me on it and it is doing well to achieve that. Best I’ve had was 90mpg with motorway riding (not recommended on this slug of a beast).
wtf - the yanks have different gallons / pints etc? pmsl. Do they not know that we were using such measures long before their minor nation was even born?
What’s that… about 15-16 miles? Maybe I need to look for a place in Erith. That’s my ideal commute - not too long or expensive, just enough to wake me up, have some fun playing on the bike, and arrive at work buzzin’.
How’s Erith and surrounding area for bike theft? It’s a long time since I’ve been down that neck of the woods.
