One for the oldies, what remedies do you recall?
Iodine for grazes and cuts - I thought it was a punishment for falling over, strung proper.
Malt extract - Like Marmite you loved it or hated it, we loved our daily spoonful.
Cod liver oil - What was that all about it was and cod liver oil, yuck.
Whisky … for everything . Drunk or rubbed in , hot or cold or all at the same time .
Milk of Magnesium or somefink like that. White yulkie stuff in a blue bottle for tummy aches.
Rosehip syruip. Don’t know why my parent took it but a swig when there were out didn’t kill me.
Edit: Sorry missed the for oldies bit but you can have this for freey
Guess what Art, we still use iodine for dressing of wounds now.
Except it’s called inadine! Good stuff.
Syrup of figs yuck!
Malt extract That takes me back.
Fiery Jack.
Free milk and a good spanking.
Not quite on track, but why did they have doctors come round at school and squeeze your bollocks while you were supposed to cough?, not sure they can do that these days, or maybe they still do?
In our house there were 2 possible medical solutions. If you were cut, grazed or otherwise bleeding it was hydrogen peroxide & stung like hell, if you weren’t then it was just put down to growing pains.
Bit of Calamine lotion will do the trick.
and has it got a proper sting to it?
Some say it stings other say no.
So guess not.
Probably less than Mrs J’s Mum cure - a wet flannel and “rub it & laugh” for most injuries less than a broken bone
Iodine and TCP on every cut and bruise. The alternative in Greece was hydrogen peroxide (which apparently is useless on cuts and scrapes)
Calamine on any form of rash & sunburn
Gripe water … I forgot about that … cure you straight away from a dose of gripe … whatever that is .
Hydrogen peroxide and iodine. Used them on a weekly basis when was a kid.
You forgot the Lemon or vinegar for bites. Well daddys old greek remedy
are you sure he was a real doctor ?
Actually in our household it was ‘jump in sea’…lemon was for. Lea ing hands after fish or ribs
