Fourth Annual LB Poohsticks Championships. Sunday 10.3.13

Though it is not an official LB rideout, this iconic event is now in it`s fourth year.

It will take place on Sunday the 10th of March which just happens to be Mother`s Day.
If your Mum is a MILF, feel free to bring her along.

This is a full days ride with lunch stop before the main event, a re-creation of the Poohsticks competition made famous in the books of A.A.Milne. (At the original venue)

There is a short walk to and from Poohsticks Bridge.

The ride will depart from the Ace at 9.30am prompt.
Pick up from Box Hill departing 10.45am prompt.
Lunch stop at Wessons Cafe, Horam.

The cornerman system will be used, if you don’t know it read here http://londonbikers.com/forums/435756/The-cornerman-system-explained and if you’re not sure, ask before we all set off. No-one will mind explaining it.

All sticks provided, just show up with a full tank and an empty bladder.

We’ll post links to previous occasions if you are not sure what is involved. This is the event alluded to in the previous post: http://londonbikers.com/forums/Topic994617.aspx?PageIndex=4&Update=1

Due to the interest shown it could be useful if you post if you are coming so we have an idea how many sticks to prepare. All are hand crafted and ethically-sourced, marked with biodgradable environmentally friendly paint.

Rules will be posted too, and will be strictly adhered to.

Please note that you ride at your own risk, neither we nor LB can be responsible for anything that happens to you on the day.

As in previous years, there will be an obligatory donation to the LB chosen charity, London Air Ambulance, which will be a minimum of £2.50. Don’t expect any change though, they need every penny they can get.

I bet he would’nt fit in his tin tin leathers now:D:D

That’s a bit harsh:w00t:

Don’t forget to study the rules:

‘The official Pooh Corner Rules for Playing Poohsticks’

  1. First, you each select a stick and show it to your fellow competitors. You must agree which stick is which - or whose, as it were.

  2. Check which way the stream is flowing. Competitors need to face the stream on the side where it runs in, under the bridge (upstream). Note: If the stream runs out, from under the bridge you are standing on the wrong side! (downstream).

  3. Choose someone to be a Starter. This can be either the oldest or the youngest competitor.

  4. All the competitors stand side by side facing upstream.

  5. Each competitor holds their stick at arms length over the stream. The tall competitors should lower their arms to bring all the sticks to the same height over the stream as the shortest competitor’s stick.

  6. The starter calls, 'Ready - Steady - Go!" and all the competitors drop their sticks. Note: the stick must not be thrown into the water.

  7. At this point in the game all the players must cross to the downstream side of the bridge. Please take care - young players like to race across. Remember, other people use bridges and some of them have vehicles or horses.

  8. Look over the edge of the bridge for the sticks to emerge. The owner of the first Stick to float from under the bridge, is the winner.

I’m definatley maybe in.

I’m in if the stars are aligned

I’m in. Ooh got the bike serviced this weekend and got a new full size plate fitted with the EU bit on it. I’ve forgotten how fun it is to sit on a rocket ship.

Absolutely determined to be there as my first rideout of the year - even if I have to bring a walking stick!

Just a warning Ally- there is quite a walk to and from the bridge from where we can park the bikes, and the return leg is pretty much all uphill, and most of it is muddy. :ermm:

No worries, we can fashion a sedan chair out of materials from the forest.

You might need to factor in a few extra minutes to allow me to catch you up (no change there then!!) - Will bring a pack of wet wipes for when I fall on my ar*e!

Might purchase one of those ramblers walking sticks that have the spiky bit on the bottom to help keep me upright. Many thanks for the kind offer Joby, but fail to imagine many volunteers to take a corner - I’ve heard hernias can be quite painful :ermm:

mr J,

can we not park in the parking place which is not that far, like we did last time i came? thats not too much to walk.

Well it’s all relative Alba - we didn’t think it was too far (and that is where we intend to park again) but by the amount of whinging & moaning that went on we thought most of the other participants did:w00t:

thats laughable

i shall meet you at the ace if my friend kindly minds the dog for me, if not i’ll meet you at box. if its not raining naturally.

Couldn’t someone just bring an offroad bike and give Ally a pillion ride?

I too remember it’s a bit of a challenge (especially the way back up) so I can only imagine how bad it would be on a busted leg.

Sadly I don’t think I’m going to be mended enough to make it :frowning:

That sounds like fun!! :w00t:

We are in - Is cat invited or as she tried to cheap last time is her ban still in existence??

I will make sure i bring the relevant paperwork to prove she has not taken performance enhancing drugs.

Yes, course she’s welcome - we want to see the diving-for-stick-rugby-tackle move again:D
