Does anybody know if Forward Facing Speed Cameras are always on the same side as the direction of traffic or on the opposite side?
I ask this because I was driving in Colchester yesterday in my jam jar and a camera on the right hand side of the road flashed. it was facing towards me
I will just have to wait for the postie for the next two weeks
I think there on the same side as the direction of traffic, I was watching videos of these dutch that go around blowing them up and I might have a go myself.
There is a normal rear facing camera on Brixton road. I go through it every morning travelling in the opposite direction and it always flashes me and many others. Think some must just be hyperactive!
It brightens my morning to think I waste a few seconds of some speedcam employees time as they review yet another useless photo!
If its a normal gatso ,set up with the markings in the road for the other lane then you’re fine.I set off two on my way home all the time, especially in the dark,I think it confuses the camera.
The swivel gatsos are normally in a central reservation and the markings will be in both lanes.
I take it you know that the new digital gatsos don’t flash,so you don’t know if they’ve got you,but its the same with them, they are only for the lane that they face with the markings.
The other thing is that they can’t have a camera flashing in your face in case it blinds you, flashes have to be the rear of your car/bike.
As I said I always do the one in Epping and one in Woodford by the Cricketers pub and never heard a thing, apart from when the Epping one got me properly when I was daydreaming and speeding,38 in a 30,got a speed awareness course for that!!!
I’m aware now to only speed going the other way!!!
Forward facing cameras (Truvelo) use infrared flash so they don’t blind you. If there was no line markers painted on your side of the road they can’t calculate your speed, unless its SPECS.
You have prolly just set a Gatso off going the other way. Happens all the time.
Interestingly, they are starting to use forward cameras alongside normal rear facing Gatsos so they can get an ID on the drivers face. This is because of the increasing number of people denying they were at the wheel when the offence was commited. There is one on Lower Thames St westbound next to the old Billingsgate market.
Tinted visors down
Not that I would condone perverting the course of justice. ( to any job on here)
Yup, can confirm they’re not always on a particular side of the road. They are mostly on the nearside. I pass the Chalfont one that get’s swivelled - there are sets of lines on both sides of the road and it’s mounted nearside when you are Amersham bound. There’s also a mobile speedtrap just 20m or so down the road southbound, so people speed up after the truvelo and occassionaly get collared there.
