Kin hell, missed this thread.

Awful news, wishing Mark all the best. As a keen cyclist I know only too well how vulnerable you are, absolutely terrifying what’s happened.

Also from what I know of Mark if anyone can make the most of fighting to make as best a recovery then it s Mark.

Wishing Mark, Ang and family all the best x

Looks like I missed a twats comments, there’s always one :woman_shrugging:

After 9 weeks in hospital Mark is finally out but can’t go back to our home so is in what he calls a ‘care home’ for at least the next year, possibly two.

He cannot weight bear at all on the leg and the shoulder break has to heal … they’ve given 6 months before they go back in and operate on the leg plus do more skin grafts and the shoulder due for a replacement so he cannot have any physio or rehab.

It’s going to be a long long road until we know the full extent and long term outcome. :slightly_frowning_face:

Our lives have been turned upside down, it’s such a horrible situation not knowing where we can call home for the foreseeable :slightly_frowning_face: but at least he is alive!

Thanks for all your messages and donations on GFM you have been so generous and caring xx

Glad to hear he’s out. He sounds like he was going a bit stir-crazy in the hospital.

I can’t imagine what this must have been like for you and the family, Ang. Our thoughts go out to you and hope things improve as quickly as possible.

And to Mark - well done you trooper!

Sorry to hear this sad news Ang, Mark is such a nice caring soul. You two are a great couple and have provided me with many fond memories.

Latest updates copied from the gofundme page.

After spending three weeks at the Cleveland Clinic in London dad has now been moved into temporary accommodation for the next 12 months at least, as the family home is not suitable for wheelchair access. He will be spending the next few months in recovery allowing the open wounds to heal before undergoing more surgeries on his leg and shoulder. A complete shoulder replacement will probably be needed as it is in such a poor state, this will mean he will never regain full use of his arm. His leg and hip will also require further surgery. He is managing to get around the house on a motorised wheelchair and do very local trips to the shops. He would like to thank everybody for there continued help and support.

I know it sounds like an obvious question, but have you started a compensation claim yet?

Based on what I have read, liability against the car driver should not be an issue, but more to the point, once the thirds party insurers accept liability (which should not be an issue) not only would you be entitled to interim payments to help you live, but all medical and rehabilitation costs are funded by the other side.

Your claim would be substantial and would take into account a long term prognosis.

If you have not yet appointed anyone to represent you, I can put you in touch with a personal friend (who also used to be my boss) and is a specialist personal injury lawyer., but she will be able to explain everything to you in person.

Remember, when a serious crash and injury occurs through no fault of your own, you must be compensated to the financial position you would have been in before and but for the negligence of the third party, and this is before you start talking injury compensation for general and special damages…

Keep a record of all your financial outgoings and losses as this can also be claimed back.

Message me if you would like to discuss further and btw, I no longer work in law so I am not on a commission or anything like that. I just don’t like seeing people fobbed off and ripped off by the cowboy elements and accident management companies.

One of the articles said, Jill Greenfield, head of the serious team at solicitors Fieldfisher, said she is in contact with the insurers of the driver who hit Mr Thomas.

From my dealings with Fieldfisher they are on the ball so hopefully this is already being taken care of.

If this would cause you any concerns may be best to message Ang privately.

I must have missed that. Sorry.

If things are in hand I will keep my thoughts on that firm to myself

Sorry replies are few and far between, it’s hard trying to keep up with everything.

Thank you for your advice, yes we have a Solicitor who is dealing with the case now.

Mark is doing as well as can be expected and surprising the Drs and OT weekly, his determination and stubbornness has taken over :joy:

At the moment he is waiting for an op on the heart as this is holding up further procedures for the shoulder, if it wasn’t for the accident this wouldn’t have been necessary.

He’s had to move away due to access in our home so this has been very upsetting for both of us, it’s a really difficult time and I hate it. :slightly_frowning_face:

Good to know you have representation in place. Make sure they keep up the pressure. I have seen it happen all too many times when a law firm drags its feet and nothing gets done and then proceedings become time barred or interim payments are not sought along with out of pocket expenses.

Remember, you are employing the solicitor, if they fail to do the job you require of them you can sack them at anytime without cost to you.

Just make sure they do the job you employed them to do properly…
