Does anyone know if any of tyre repair/fitters (northwest, north or central London) are open this (Sunday) afternoon? Or shall I abandon plans for today?
And for future reference, who, what and where can get me moving again on a Sunday?

The Cavalry are pretty good, not sure if they do Sundays though.
Try them on 07974260311
Thanks!
You can get repair kits that plug the tyre - on the other hand I prefer to carry a can of Holts temporary tyre repair - it attaches to the valve and inflates the tyre with foam - it will get you moving again - means that you won’t get stuck by the roadside/can get the bike to tyre shop. See link.

downside is that it normally means the tyre can’t be plugged afterwards, try ultraseal, you put it in before you get a puncture and the tyre can still be plugged afterwards
That’s a bit of an urban myth that Tyreweld prevents a tyre being repaired. The stuff is water soluble and causes no ill effect to a tyre. It’s easily washed out with warm water.
Tyre fitters will tell you all kinds of fairy stories just because they don’t want to do the messy job.:w00t:
I got up this morning to head to brands to watch some of the club racing there only to see that my rear tire had gone flat… I’d not ridden the bike since my birthday trip to brighton… wheeled it back and forth and saw what had caused it…
Called the RAC and they sorted it within about 30 mins, plugged the tire and reinflated it, just need to get it down to a tire shop to get a new rear now…got to give a big up to maddy from the RAC for sorting it out!!
was gutted though, it was a brand new tire, it only had 100 miles on it, and hadnt been scrubbed in yet!!
to say i was angry this morning was an understatement, but too be fair, its my first one in 5000 miles…so shouldnt complain, a lad in work has had several in the last two months!
If the hole isn’t too severe the tyre shop may be able to fit a more permanent plug - a lot cheaper than a new tyre. Some people don’t like riding on plugged tyres - I’ve never had a problem with them.
I’ve got one of those ‘temporary’ roadside repairs in my rear BT021 - happened back in April.
Took the tyre off to go to Scotland , wore the Avons out and put the 021 back on.
Done about 2000 miles (some at silly speeds) since the repair, and it’s fine - certainly wouldn’t buy another tyre when I could repair the one I have.
Im gonna get 1 of those kits that allows you to plug your own tyre, got a puncture last week & it cost me £140 :pinch:
I can recommend the ones that use the ‘string’ type repairs - you don’t have to ream the hole out as much, so they minimise damage to the carcass.
I’ve just phoned essential rubber and they don’t have the tire that I want, but they did say that they can do permenant repairs… stupid question here, but what does that entail? how permanent is it? and how safe is it?
They’ll put a plug in it - I’ve always plugged my (rear) tyres after getting flats/discovering nails in them - never had a problem with them - and it is uneconomical to buy brand new tyres every time you get a puncture - which if you do high mileages can be often. In my experience they have proved safe at high speeds.
I’ve done a track day on rear tyre with 2 plugs. Should be fine for normal road riding.

Now why does that NOT surprise me?? Only begs the question, when you had your off on the track, was it on a plugged tire?? :w00t::w00t::w00t::w00t:
Had my flat permanently repaired at Essential Rubber this morning. £20, bless them.

Nice one, I’ll be heading there tomorrow am ![]()
I carry a repair kit it is one of these after I went through three tyres in a matter of months (none could be repaired

The only downside to them is the gas cannisters will only inflate to 10-15psi, but it will get you out of trouble. I have used it once on someone else’s bike, it was a Triumph Trophy and it got the guy off the M1.
It fits under the seat and works a treat, but I do need to get a small pump to properly inflate the tyre.
I went to get my tire looked at this morning and it seems that my flat couldnt be repaired as the RAC chap had created a second hole in the tire when plugging it, apparently they’ve had a fair few come in like that recently - which is fair, its particularly difficult to know exactly which way the hole goes from the outside…
either way, im gutted cause ive got to shell out for a new tire when my other one was only 100miles old!
Question for people out there - I had Dunlop Sportmax Qualifiers on the bike originally, and after speaking with the guy at the tire place, (they didnt have any qualifier’s in stock) he said that there wouldnt be an issue with putting on a sportmax roadsmart (the sports touring) equivilent… is this necessarily going to give me grief or is it dangerous?
cheers!
