First Leathers

Found this ebay shop. I was wondering if anyone had any experience with it? I’m looking for a cheapish but not absolute bargain basement set of leathers, 1 or 2 piece. I don’t want them to fall apart more than intended if I go for a slide.

When ordering a size, do you order the size you are exactly say 42" chest 32" waist etc or do you give a little extra room. I’ve read various things about leathers being too small then stretching out but buying a size above might give me chance to eat some pies and not have to change my leathers…

cheers in advance for any advice!

I wouldn’t go there if I were you mate.

You need to try stuff on to see if the fit is good and that the armour sits in the correct places etc . . . . .

Best thing is wait for the BMF Tailend show http://www.bmf.co.uk/Events/pages/tail_end.php there is always a good selection of leathers there at knocked down prices.

No personal experience of them at all. They look and sound ok, but, I wouldn’t buy anything I hadn’t seen or tried on for a start. Great value for money stuff can be had from Hein Gericke.

Hmm just checked out Hein Gericke, is £400-£569 good value for money? I’m almost tempted to get the stuff off Ebay for £175 and take him up on his exchange offer if it doesn’t fit! Saves me a load of cash. I know you can’t pay enough for your safety, but could it really be THAT much better stuff?!

My Dainese suite was £600 and although it’s comfortable it’s not really that well made. It’s worth taking a trip to see Hideout leathers near Haverhill, their leathers are fantastic in comparison, Probaby £850 for a basic two piece suite from memory but the difference in leather quality, stitching, thickness, suppleness etc is worth seeing. I wish I’d spent the extra and got one of those. Worth seeing and feeling just to have something to compare the others against.

Have a chat with Wasp, she’ll know a good set from a cheap set.

You can get a set of Hein Gericke 2-piece leathers for £300 & you’ll know what you’re getting, whilst these sound OK, how do you know they won’t fall apart at the first sniff of tarmac ? What sort & grade of leather is it ? How good is the stitching ? What type of thread are they held together with ?

End of the day though it’s your skin you’re looking to protect, so the most important question is - how much is it worth to you ?

If it’s pretty low, then go with the ebay suit & spend the money you’ll save on some ‘Improving your self-esteem’ type books from Amazon !

Hi I have the same 2 pc suit in red and white. I have had it for 3 years and all the zips and stitching are fine.

Heh cheers  I like the plan… Self esteem’s not <that> low but the bank balance is… hence I can’t really justify spending £850 or really even £600 on a set of leathers. Same reason I bought a £150 lid instead of a £300 one. I aint looking to make a fashion statement but I’d like a bit of protection… If £600 is the bottom line for a bit of quality and protection so that I don’t have to replace the leathers every year or so then so be it… I was just hoping there was a cheaper way to do it…

Sony- which 2pc suit do you have? The ebay one or the Hein Gericke one?

I just got a 2 pc from infinity, £350.00 from Infinity for Frank Thomas gear. It is going to be replaced as soon as the bank bal allows, but a bit of protection is better than nothing

well from experiance i would say TECKNIC are a good make the stand up to a slide i had relitivlly low speed off(20-30mph) but the leather is only scuffed and all intacted i bought mine from n.e.c cheep price £260 but there top of the range suit is about £500-£600

better than frank thomas anyday

I have tested my HG £300 leathers and they held up very well, but have seen other cheapies fall apart easily. That ebay guy…BARGEPOLE…

I got some Carrera leathers made up a year ago, really really tough construction, but I am not overly happy with the cut/fit.

I’m with Slarty on this one.

I’ve got Hideout and although a bit more expensive they are top quality and fit like the preverbial glove.

Can’t praise Kate and her gang enough:)

Also it’s a cracking ride there:cool:
