Been looking in every few weeks for a while but not successfully signed up until now, so - hello!
Passed DAS three years ago, didn’t ride again after that for two years, but last April I bought a twenty year old CBR600F (everybody’s obvious choice for a first bike) and started remembering to ride. Live up in the top right corner of London where it’s nearly Essex.
I have lots of questions, starting with “where’s a good place to get a suspension refresh/regas” and “is it worth joining ELAM” but maybe it’s better to ask them in the relevant forums not the newbie forum
Lots of people use BN race science for suspension setup, he used to active on here too, and im assuming does servicing.
Ive used Colin at 100% for trackbike setup as hes at many trackdays, and is also a really nice guy, does postal suspension servicing too.
As for ELAM, I did IAM with Hearts Beds and Bucks, it changed how i ride (for the better) but i didnt get anything from the social side. Part of this is the meets are on tuesdays, and i cant do that. though I hear ELAM do more social stuff, and some people on here i think are members.
When you go to do IAM (or similar) you want to be confident and competent on the bike already, so you can tune your skills rather than build them. Id be tempted to make it feel less new beforehand, though others might disagree with this. Bikesafe is definatly worth doing soon though.
I don’t know of any suspension places around your area, though there’s this place a bit further east. Not sure if they look after road bikes though, but maybe worth a call?
Yeah, I found the threads but guessed he was more about the setup than the servicing. I could settle that one way or the other by calling him, I suppose …
That’s kind of my excuse for not having done anything about it yet. I’m not a complete liability as a rider but I’m still feeling like “get the miles in” is the best use of time just yet,
Oh those were the days. I used to hold on to busses to get home faster. When you go over a manhole cover at 30mph on 78mm 84As you really feel it through your ankles. I wasn’t the brighests back then.
