The past two times I have started the bike, I have been getting the FI indicator light flashing and not able to fire up.
If i switch the engine off and then back on again a few seconds later, it starts up OK (although it took a few times the first time I did this, but it only took once this morning)
I get this on my Bandit 1250 - sometimes “FI” shows on the display and it refuses to start, so I switch off, open and close the petrol cap then start again and it usually works, not sure why that does as there is no blockage in the air feed to the tank!A dealer I took it to wasn’t able to fix it as it came up with all kinds of errors that didn’t seem to make any sense so they suspect it’s my Acumen alarm/immobiliser that’s messing with the ECU.
One day I wlll get round to getting the people who installed the Acumen - P&H - to take a look (still saving up for that :hehe: )
The FI light is an indication that there is a problem…though it does come on sometimes when you accidentally turn the bike on with the alarm and then turn the alarm off while the bike is on.
There is a mode for GSXRs called I think “Dealer Mode” and when the bike is in this mode the FI light will actually change to a number and this number corresponds to a problem.
Since it is all electronic I think we can probably eliminate things like tyre pressure etc and anything else that is not electronically tied in…so it is most likely going to be a fuelling, injection, timing type problem.
You can manually put your bike into Dealer Mode and find the number and then look up the problem, it isn’t that hard, though I was reluctant to do it myself.
It is available on the web, just do a google search for Dealer Mode + GSXR or simply take it to a dealer.
When I investigated this, admittedly a year ago, on a K2 600, I found information that suggested you could create dealer mode by simply putting a paper clip into a white box under the seat…I STRONGLY suggest that you don’t randomly do this but instead look it up on a reputable site, the one I found had pictures and descriptions of what to do.
I never did it though as the FI light only came on a couple of times and then the issue went away on its own.
Same here for a Bandit 650 Chris. It was a corroded ignition barrel contact-my bike lived outside-that was giving me the FI light. It has since happened on a friend’s GSXR.
