I’ll start off by saying its a LEGIT fender (not an imitation or a squire by fender)
Built in the California factory and bought by me in 2010 (iirc)
At the time, I had been playing guitar for 2 years and wanted something that sounded nicer than my cheap knockoff SG.
I wanted a Dean with active pickups but my dad stood in the way and told me to get this fender. It doesn’t have the tone that I want.
I play mostly metal so single coil pickups with 9 gauge strings isn’t for me.
I stuck 11 gauges on my cheap guitar and bought a Peavey Vyper to compensate but the time has come to sell the strat and get the guitar I want (Or put the money towards a VFR)
Like new but a little dusty.Been sitting under my bed and rarely played.Has stock strings so you’ll want to replace them.Comes with semi-hard case, whammy bar and documents.
I’m about to go to work so I can only give you a stock image for now but will upload some actual photos if there’s any interest. I payed £1000 for it so I want £600 for it.
Do you have a photo of the actual guitar rather than stock? Exactly which 2010 model is it (guessing American Deluxe)? If deluxe, is it pre or post the 2010 upgrade? Where in London are you based?
I’m home from work so I’ll upload one now.
its an American Standard.
I ran the serial number and its states it was made in the Corona factory between 2009-2010. Serial number is Z9427480. According to Fender’s insrument dating page this was made in 2009. (American Deluxe models from 2009 have serial numbers starting with DZ9)
Based in E1
I’ve tried to include close ups of some stuff.
In that plastic pack is ALL documents and Allen keys that came with it. The case has a lock and I DO have the key.
Also has Fender cloth and strap.
Thanks for putting up the pictures. That’s the upper reaches of my budget, but for that kind of money I’d be looking for a higher end model I’m afraid-- deluxe, select, custom, signature or the like. The standard would be worth quite a bit less to me personally, being only a couple of years old doesn’t actually help and this year’s upgrade to the standard hurts you as well :-|. I’d actually suggest that you get some new strings on it, clean it up properly (no dust!), and use it as a negotiating tactic with the shop when buying your new guitar. If the salesman sees that it’s something he can just stick in the window and be happy with, they’re likely to offer you good money for it towards the guitar you want.
Just seen the pics. It’s fucking lovely mate. Never seen it all the times I’ve been round but that is awesome. Def consider the line 6 pod to get the sound you want…
I know you want money for the vfr. But i think you will regret this one.
I know its a lovely guitar but to get the sound I want, I’ll have to mutilate it.
I’d rather sell it on to someone who will use it as is than cut chunks out for active pickups and screw with the tone.
Rick. I know what a pod is. I’m not a fucking idiot. I figured you would have got the hint after you told me about it 5 times and I told you I was looking at the Sanpera 2 because it was made by Peavey, for my Peavey amp!
The trouble is, it’s not just the “output sound”…it’s the feel, the the tone, the sound the guitar itself makes, the sustain it can hold…you can only do so much with electrical trickery. I think Columbo is doing the right thing, he sounds like he knows exactly what he wants.
Take a look at what they actually sell for (e.g. eBay completed listings) and you’ll know what it’s worth. Not what it should be worth, not a “fair price”, but what someone is likely to actually give you in cash to take your guitar away. I’ve been looking for a strat for a few months now (I travel a lot for work so that’s much less “real” time than it sounds), and I’d reckon if you wanted to sell it in this climate you might manage to get £400 or so for it from a private buyer, and you’d be hard pushed to find a buyer.
That’s actually why I recommend you tidy it up and use it as a trade in. The same person who might pay £400 privately would probably pay £650 in a shop for the exact same guitar. Go figure. Shop owners know this…and if they see something that they think they can likely get rid of quickly (and it’s a lovely guitar!), they’ll probably be willing to offer you your £600 for it.
Me, I’m going to buy privately, and the guitar I buy for £5-600 will probably be in a guitar shop for £800 or so…
I cut all the strings off and gave it a good clean.
Stuck some D’Addario 9 gauge super lights on it. Its a pack that I bought when I snapped the e string so its missing that but’ll i’ll pick one up tomorrow.
While i’m in, I’ll end up getting the strings for my other guitar as they could do with replacing too. I run 13 gauge super heavys on my other.
