Was picking my girlfriend up from work in Regents street. Came through the back streets parallel to Bayswater road and met Bayswater road and crossed it at the lights, I wanted to go right to continue up Bayswater road past Lancaster Gate. There is a no right turn sign here so had to go into the park and turn round to enter the road and turn left to continue my journey.
So first at the lights on the right hand lane and the lights change. Who is turning right on the NO right hand turn on the opposite side of the road and heading down the road I am entering. A feckin’ cyclist!!
I cross him in like a synchronised swap of sides and I beep my horn and we collide on my left. His bag wraps around my wing mirror and yanks it off, it crashed on the ground as he takes a plunge. This all happens at around 5-10 mph or so.
The guy is now laying pretty much in the middle of the 4 laned road by Victoria gate. A biker stops, cars are trying and squeeze through.
The 55 year old cyclist, no helmet, lay there with a nasty cut on his forehead, he was a bit dazed. We moved him to the side of the road and gave him some tissues.
If you were on Bayswater road you may have seen the collection of Emergency vehicles and police, I was quite taken aback by the amount of people there. But I guess they did not see what happened as it was not really ‘that’ major.
Anyway as the guy hurt himself, my details were taken and he was shifted off to hospital. Did you see what happened? There were no witnesses names collected as it was pretty hectic rush hour traffic.
So its juts my word against his. Lets hope that nothing comes from it.
So today I’m looking for a new wing mirror and mount.
Sorry to hear about your incident Phantomgixxer. Definitely sounds like the cyclist was at fault. Another case of a cyclist thinking that they are exempt from the rules of the road and coming a cropper as a result.
There were at 5 police and 2 ambulance people there at the busiest time. It was parked up on the side of the road so they had chance to have a good look over it.
They just asked me if I had a full license that was it really.
The cyclist is most definitely at fault. The rules of the road apply to them, too. And if he had been wearing safety gear, he may not have received any injuries. I don’t know the road you’re talking about, but maybe there’s CCTV?
There are ‘c’ charge cameras on the park area that I passed but I could not see anything directly where we were. I’m going to have a look tomorrow, its just too wet out there tonight… its only a few minutes walk from my house.
i was coming down bayswater towards marble arch, saw a bike parked up, with what looked like a green vespa parked behind it and someone sitting against the wall with a blanket over him.
I assumed the 2 motorbikes had collided and was gonna stop to see if i could help but i saw there were already 3 coppers/pcso’s there so didn’t pull over as assumed everything was in hand.
That was me! (well me standing not sitting on the floor) Yeah it was all pretty much in hand as there was a helpful biker and a guy in a van that stopped for a short while before the cops came.
Sadly, I have only my vespa to run around on for the time being as my k7 750 gixer was nicked a few weeks ago.
I’ll hear Sat if the guy is telling the same story as me… fingers crossed he will tell the truth…
