Exhaust - road legal & not performance enhancing...?

Morning All!

I’ve bought a new bike (whoop whoop! :D) - a Bimmer 1200GS - pretty excited about picking it up on Friday. :w00t:

I was sorting out the insurance last night and they obviously wanted to know if it’s been modified in any way - there’s a non-standard Remus exhaust on it & they wanted to know if it was :
a) road legal
b) if it enhanced the bike’s performance.

Couple of pics below - anybody know if it is/isn’t in each case?

Cheers

Dave

Dont know about the exhaust, but dont you think time slows down more than normal? I had to wait a whole week to get my bike - longest week ever- :D:D

someone can correct me if im wrong here:generally if you have an mot for the bike then the exhaust is road legal (that is unless somebody took it off put the original can back on, got it mot’ed then put the new exhaust back on). However, if the exhaust isnt road legal it should say somewhere on it “Not for road use” or something along the lines of. if it says nothing like my micron can does it means its legal.

as for the whole performance enhancing bit, i have no idea. i told my insurance company mines not performance enhancing.

Looking at Remus’ website (www.remus.eu) it’s one of these two:

Neither give a peak power increase of more than 2bhp, and provided that they have the baffle in, they should be road legal.

If you was ever to going to spend any more money on the bike… may I suggest…

Powder Coat EVERYTHING to black… Would look very mean! Just take all the silver bits off take it to a powder-coat specialist, then stick them all back on…

Sexy!

Oh yea, the exhaust is fine… e-marked and baffles in of course.

Smashing - thanks for that Uber - much appreciated (in my half-asleep mode this morning, never occured to me to look up the Remus website :hehe:).

Mel - ya, know what you mean, would love to just bail up there this afternoon & ride away with it, but I suppose waiting a little longer for it makes it all the sweeter when you get it?!?

Welcome to the bimmer club

They normally only worry when the power increase is over 5%.
And even still, the premium for ‘slip-ons’ is pretty cheap. Think I paid around £20 last year. This year (different bike) they didnt even charge me.

Plus it’s a GS - who cares…:stuck_out_tongue:
(just kidding :hehe:)

All the best

If all else fails you can get some nice little stainless steel plates on ebay that say BS AU e 193A. Fix with Araldite or drill and pop rivet.

Hey, instant “legality”.
