The above ER5 has been drawn to my attention and having a restricted license but feeling my scoot is not adequate if the fan gets hit on the motorway i’m intrigued.
Does any one have any experience with this model (33bhp restricted) or any advice regarding price/condition.
Could get yourself a decent 600 in the same condition or better around the same year for the £1500 they are asking, especially in the winter. As has been said lots of times, maybe go for a bandit/hornet - even at 33bhp it’ll be a lot more fun and you’ll have more to look forward to when its time for the restrictors to come out. Spend around that on one of the models i mentioned and keep it in good nick and i doubt it’ll lose any value over a couple of years anyway should you get bored of it.
The er-5 looks like a reasonable, if dull, bike but i reckon he/she’s asking too much…It’s difficult for me to say what i’d pay for it personally, as i dont want one :w00t: But i reckon i’d want £200-£300 off that price for it to begin looking more appetising.
Having spoken to others too the price is considered steep for a 12yo bike. with restriction included they quoted me £1574, which is definately too much.
I’d stay clear of a dealer if your budget is around 1.5k, you could find yourself a real nice bike - obviously it’s a little riskier but in my experience the savings out weigh that risk…
Having said that I’m sure if you went in with £1300 cash to take it same day with restriction kit included i’m sure they’d do it haha.
yes they are boring. Yes they are very underpowered. restriction kit from Kawasaki costs £100+.
that one looks in great condition but it is very old. easier to find part for than for the C model (like I have).
£1200 would be more reasonable. The “full service history” seems a bit suspicious seeing as it won’t have had the first main one at 4k miles yet. Technically, it could still have the original spark plugs etc.
saying that, they’re bloody comfy. I can do 200 miles and not need to stop (for fuel or for my ass). Mine is a 2001 and was £1200 with 12k miles on and I still love her to bits.
The exhaust whistles and they vibrate a lot. Also, spares aren’t as plentiful as they might be.
Restrictor kits can be had off eBay for about £20, and you can fit it yourself (it’s a washer that sits one side of the carb, restricting fuel/air flow into the cylinder). You can pay upwards of £150 to have someone fit it and give you a piece of paper saying they fitted it, but the legal
requirement is the 33bhp output, not the fancy bit of paper.
Looks a good clean bike, but I wouldn’t want to be paying any more than £800
MTC are ok guys, but all dealers need to make money, so it’ll be expensive.Personally, I think the ER-5 is bottom of the pile of the 500 twins, the GS500 and CB500 are both better bikes and the GS is the prettiest .I wouldn’t have thought that restricting them makes a massive amount of difference to performance, either…
