Easter Scotland trip.

Hello all,

I’m planning a trip around Scotland from the 3rd of April to the 12th. I initially I plan to reach Northumberland national park via motorway and take the nice small roads from there.

Is 10 days enough to see the best of Scotland? I will be doing mostly legal speeds, stopping for pictures and perhaps some activities. At the moment I’m looking for ideas on this forum old threads

Will the weather be acceptable?

I will be riding solo and planning to sleep on campings / b&bs and maybe give it a try to couchsurfing.

Cheers

(I’ll come back with more questions and details, I will probably video log the journey)

have a look at Whereisgibsons stuff, his tour of the British north is here; http://londonbikers.com/forums/1006981/ktmmartin’'s-tour-of-the-north

Cheers! I’ve seen that thread a few times already, loads of great ideas.

Here’s a better route to Northumberland National Park Googlie Mapd didgeridoo dah here It’ll take you all day to get there but you’ll thank me for it. Plenty of iconic nose bag stops along the way including The Cat & Fiddle PH, Snake Pass Tea Hut, Hawes Chippy and Hartside Top Cafe. Note the route avoids Squires Cafe and Middleton in Teesdale

We’ve done Scotland in a day before now

Googlie Maps Scotland 2012 day one

Googlie Maps Scotland 2012 day two

Googlie Maps Scotland 2012 day three

Not so exoctic RBLR 1,000 Scotland one day

Thanks Art, very useful info!

Will the weather be acceptable?

The weather in Scotland can be unacceptable at the height of summer. Just take waterproofs with lots of layers to put underneath. Spring can be a surprising time all over the UK. Good luck.

Don’t forget to visit the old man of Hoy, And Applecross Pass.

Did you climb theOld Man?

No just went around it on a boat.

Ahh I’ll be in Scotland for the Easter period

Getting the train up though, looking forward to a little stay at Fort William for a few days as well, wanted to go to Skye but the place is already totally booked up!

This just made me think… Do I need to book campings and b&bs already???

Hi Guys,

After reading old threads and ideas from this forum I’ve drafted some routes for my 10 day Tour de Scotland, some recent developments have left me with 3 days still to plan, last leg is Edimbrough - London in one sitting (is it too much). I’m sharing what I’ve already plotted, but I’m happy to hear your suggestions. I’m riding solo, but if you are around I’ll be happy to meet for tea and pie or after ride pint.

day 1, you need to turn left at stamford, go through melton mowbray, through matlock and some way through the peak district to the yorkshire dales and your hostel.

I’d be inclined to make day 1 through the Peak District stopping around Burnley, and then have day 2 taking you up to Grinton without a rush.

Don’t drive past any petrol stations, fill up whenever you can!

Cheers guys, I really appreciate the advice, unfortunately some hostels are booked already so, changing the dates in one means changing the dates on all.

The A9 has new average speed cameras (another good road ruined)

A93 :ermm:

The A413 from BP Denham takes you to Buckingham, then go up to Northampton and Market Harborough to get to Melton Mowbray. Cracking road.
