Doing lot of stuff my self now

The bike garages are so expensive and also having 2 bikes I have started doing a lot of work my self. Only thing that limits me is tools. For e.g today I wanted to change the chain and sprockets, done the rear but for the front my friend told me you need the air compressor and for the chain you need the rivet tool. So I have left that to be done with my south african mechanic friend. I am not sure if he will charge me or not.

u dont need a air compresser for the front just undo the bolt when u still have the chain on so it dosent turn as for the chain u may need a splitter but not always,a angle grinder will cut the old one off easilly.

You can get an electric impact driver, saves having to have a compressor and although it won’t undo lorry wheel-nuts it’ll do everyting on a bike. This is the one I got for less than 55 quid: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/24v-CORDLESS-IMPACT-WRENCH-DRIVER-POWER-TOOL-2-BATTERY_W0QQitemZ160167262050QQihZ006QQcategoryZ20777QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItemIt’s really worth buying the best tools that you can as you need them - they always come in useful, not just for the bike but for all sorts of other things over the years.

Tight arse.:stuck_out_tongue:

As Steve said, you don’t need an air thingy. I have a 2 foot long piece of 2"x2" covered in rag that I put through the back wheel and this jams against the swinging arm so that I can undo/tighten the front sprocket nut without damaging the wheel.

You can do it with the back brake on but its then a 2 man job:cool:
