Does anyone have a spare old Large helmet in West London?

Hi all, I have a motorbike and would like to take some friends on it, but only have one helmet. It would just be for occasional use, whatever sizes really, small, medium or large would all come in handy.

If you happen to have something old laying around the garage that I could dust off and wash up, i’d be most appreciative !

Thanks

best,
Nick

It really isn’t a good idea to use old out of date helmets, especially those of unknown provenance.

[Makes mental note to check the age of his own helmet].

Fully compliant new helmets can be bought for as little as £40 - although you might want to value your friends’ heads a bit more.

Depends on the friend…

But I agree with Michael, I bought a Box helmet back in the day for about that (if not less), new from a shop.

On the flipside I gave away a very little used MX helmet with goggles on Facebook marketplace when I wanted to clear some space. But then I have a bit of integrity to know that I would only get rid of it knowing it had never been dropped, bumped or crashed and was stored properly indoors. Not sure everyone on FB is the same…

Fitting is the most important factor with crash helmets, a good fitting helmet will offer far more protection than a poorly fitting helmet regardless of branding or cost and lets not forget the lions share of the cost of a reassuringly expensive motorcycle crash helmet is no doubt to cover the sponsorship, advertising and R&D etc.

Yeah but for the occasional friend who jumps on the back at last moment, you’re never going to find the right fit or have a helmet that will fit perfectly (unless it just happens to be).

If it’s even remotely more regular than that or even if you only have one other person in mind, to have as a pillion, or we’re talking a long or fast ride definitely find a good fitting helmet.

just get a cheap helmet from Halfords. that’s all I did for passengers. only around £40

Yes the amount you spend should carefully corollate to how much you like your passengers.
