does anyone ever actually stop and have a rant at car drivers?

er… is it not illegal for cars to turn left onto Oxford Street from Charing Cross Road between 7am and 7pm, Monday to Saturday?

I am a biker but if I was in my car, found myself in the wrong lane (which easily happens for those unfamiliar with London roads) and got hooted at and abused by some git on a bike trying to get me to make an illegal move then I would have been tempted to try and run them over! lol

Once… I had a go at my mother  She doesnt indicate at roundabouts, not only dangerous but i was trying to follow her so had no clue where we were going :w00t:

Nearly the same - My mom puts her indicators on about a mile before she is going to turn!

One thing that happens to me is that if I see someone with their phone on My bike gets really upset and pulls up next to them with her horn on - I have tried talking sense to her but she just wont listen… something to do with a woman on a phone causing a truck to swerve onto the slip road and nearly taking my baby out… Bella may forgive but she don’t forget easily!!!

the other one is where certain people think its funny to pull into your path as you filtering…ha ha not…

Another bit of history. I was sitting at the lights just south of Waterloo some years ago watching a dispatch rider “having words” with a car driver. (A Mk II Cortina if that dates it.)

The having words consisted of rocking the car side to side using the roof gutter (anyone remember those) for purchase while kicking in the drivers door skin with the Sidi boots and shouting at the drivers window.

I think the rider was a tad upset about something.

does grabbing someone by the throat after being cut up in my truck count ? peasant had the cheek to give me the V’s outta window, big mistake as lights went red !!!

Well… I am not sure it helps… Depends if I ride or drive. Only once did I smack someones mirror, but I didn’t break it, it just flick in, I sometimes beep or revv my engine but doesn’t do much good. Besides that I do let people know if they left indicators on or not, they appreciate it. I like to ride quite aggressive but defensive at the same time as I like to keep people away from me.

Just the other weekend I was going for a ride and I had my girlfriend behind me, I had some WV Golf in front of me and a Honda Type R behind, the WV decided to break the 30mph and do 70 or whatever and was way ahead. The Honda was behind but suddenly I saw it was trying to overtake me, may I say that I was actually doing 45-50mph also, I looked ahead and I saw a bend to right… I though surely he is not overtaking me in the bend. Wrong… I see him starting to overtake at which point I though WTF he can’t overtake me before bend, incoming traffic, this idiot can swing left to avoid someone and take me out, only thing I could do accelerate… went in bend was still accelerating to 75mph at which point the bike leaned and almost had my knee down, no idea what the GF was doing behind me, only thing I could think was **** she gonna fall down:) and get run over by that idiot. Lucky she closed her eyes (she told me she did so) and was stuck to me which made the bike very stable:) left that idiot miles behind… what could I do… go after him and ask him if he fancied having 2 people on his conscience??? Maybe my actions were wrong, I should have just slowed down and left him pass me then go past and take out his mirros:):) or stop and ask him if he think his shitty car can outdo a superbike??? and that what he did was stupid…

With the car I only done something stupid once, I was in middle lane of a 3 lane road with bus stop lane as 4th. This guy swings all the way to middle lane making me go into 3rd lane without any signal or regard from the bus lane after picking someone. Lucky I saw him at the last minute and managed to go into 3rd lane, lucky it was just me and him on road. If I had someone there I would have smacked them as I only glanced. If I was on the bike he would have knocked me out so I went after him, flashed beep, got nothing from him, passed him and started to block him and put my hazzards on, he started to run away and avoid me so I went after him until he got stuck at a traffic light, got out the car went to him… he was trying to blank me so I smacked his window hard, he put it down and started to appologies… I asked him if he saw me and if he realised what he done and why didn’t he apologies earlier when I beeped him and flashed and used my hazzard, why didn’t he aknowledge and nodded or anything to make me understand it was a mistake. I hope next time he will think twice.

Not sure I would do this again, you never know who has a knife or gun these days… but what he did was very very stupid and dangerous. Then again I could have had a knife or a gun and for his stupidity he could have been dead now…

It is really hard to judge people because I also do mistakes but %95 of the time I appologies or give a singal if I can to show I know what I done was wrong. I know the other person feels better, so would I. The worst is when someone does something dangerous and they have no diea they done it…

I have a saying:

“Those that know they don’t know teach them, those that don’t know they don’t know avoid them”

Well a couple of weekends back I had more than words with a couple of knobhead drivers.
The first one in a Ludlow Thompson estate agents blue and yellow beetle drove into the side of me while i was stationary in traffic. Not only was i amazed at the fact they drove into me while i was stationary. They then started having a pop at me… you can imagine my reaction to that :hehe:
The the next day i was at a set of lights down in Docklands when some prick in a white minivan just drove straight into my leg. Again i looked round and gave him what for… did he apologise?? No he started giving it back and theres me thinking “hold on mate you just drove into me sunshine!!” Then in an effort to impress his missus he dropped the clutch and lurched forward in a kinda “you give me any more lip and i’m gonna run you over style”. Well i followed him for a few miles before i calmed down and decided to leave it. Just glad he didnt pull over or god knows what would have happened.

It’s amazing how easy it is for someone to threaten or actually use their car/van/truck as a weapon. It’s why I make a big effort to keep my cool when I do have words.

I do find that drivers who drive for a living are less likely to rage and a comment such as: "You’re a professional driver - you should know better than … " can hit home pretty effectively.

That said, I was followed south down Malden Road NW3 a couple of days ago by a silver Transit that decided to sit a couple of feet off my rear wheel and weave very aggressively. There’s a partial 20mph limit, a school, four pedestrian crossings, a playground, a market, speed bumps and so on. Not somewhere to speed, but the limit apparently wasn’t fast enough for him. We came to the lights and stopped. I flipped up my lid and - diplomatically - told him he was too close. The driver, who I can only describe as a well-dressed elderly skinhead, gave me a mouthful of abuse and then lurched forward on the clutch as if to run me over.

The things is, I recognised his van. It was one of the ‘discrete’ jobs used by Leverton & Sons, the undertakers.

I’ve written to his boss, pointing out that they see enough of us bikers already, without his employees drumming up business.

I wonder what will happen?

If I have the opportunity I will always point out to people that they have defective lights. Most if not all, say thanks. I try and flash to let them know that they have left the indicators on but they are so distracted or otherwise not concentrating on driving they don’t notice me.

I do have a go at drivers on the phone. One time coming out of Tesco Hoover (A40 Greenford) some silly sod nearly ran me over at the roundabout at the petrol station. He was to busy on his phone to actually observe. At the next roundabout I stop next to him and gave him a mouth full. He had his 3/4 year kid in the back! He got verbal telling me to mind my own business. So I grab the phone and threw it as far as I could and let him stuck in the traffic.

It was so satisfying. I still get a warm fuzzy feeling thinking about it now, that lovely Nokia N95 flying through the air. Ahhhhhh!:satisfied:

You know, i had a car pull out of a side road in front of me today. naturally i hit the horn, gestured. he pointed out my indicator was still signalling left and he thought i was turning into the road he was coming out of. i felt quite shamefaced because i was at fault. wish we were travelling at a slower speed, i’d have apologised to him.

If you see someone doing something very stupid and you can film them or take some photos, is it possible to report them?? What if you got no proof except your word for it…

Yesterday I saw a guy overtaking then not being able to handle his car with and wobbling over the 2 lanes on the A127, as I passed him as I was behind but at a nice safe distance, I saw him on the phone driving with 1 hand. Could have I snapped a nice photo of him and send it to the police, maybe with some video proof???

What about citizen arrest?? If someone does something that puts you in danger knowingly isn’t that enough to defend yourself? I see it as attempt to bodily harm or even murder, specially if they doe it more then once (for example trying to take you out)… wouldn’t you be justified having to go smack them to make them stop?? Couldn’t you drag him/her out of their car when able to do so pin them down and call the police because you performed a citizen arrest for an attempt??

So you take them out and restrain them, call the police tell them you performed a citizen arrest because this person attempted to your life and you are waiting on them to come arrest the idiot.

I am sure there are more things people can do… we can’t just shake our head and let it go by…

lolololololol sntach the phone and throw it away… I wish I saw their face:) that’s a good one:)

If I see someone swap lanes without indicating or eating an apple behind the wheel, I usually drag them out of the window of their car and shank them in the throat…It’s the only language they understand.

I’m well good at road rage me…!

I once tapped a van’s window and politely told him the use of indicators weren’t optional after he’d almost taken 2 cyclists and myself out by changing lanes suddenly near a set of traffic lights.

He gave me a bollocking “don’t you f-ing tap my f-ing window you f-ing w-er”. Then he pretty much tried to drive me off the road when the lights went green :frowning:

Since, I tend to swear in my helmet and try to just move on.

On my way home last night some winker in a Fiat almost mounted the pavement to undertake me, then swerved in front of me and slammed on the brakes ?! I went past on the left with a big rev, beep and booted his door as I went past. I looked in the mirror to see if he’d come after me then noticed his front indicator was flashing really quick i.e. the rear one wasn’t working.

What I couldn’t work out is why the fugg he thought it necessary to dangerously undertake me and the:angry:n turn right ?

I posted on another topic the other day about idiots on the outside lane of the A4 dropping their kids off when the traffic is stopped! Well it happens daily and on Tuesday I had my closest encounter yet - filtering slowly in the p1ssing rain when suddenly the front passenger door opens and a teenager climbs out - luckily I was still about 2m away and was able to stop, at which point I screamed that it was a fugging road - get back in the car!!! Absolute fear on her face, she gets back in. I get about 5 cars further and you guessed it, a quick check of the mirror confirmed that she was back outside the vehicle along with 3 other kids all heading for the central reservation!!!

W@ankers!!! (The parents that is…)

So I actually called the local police in that area and reported it as a regular occurrence and they said they’d take a look at it and if needs be ‘dish out some tickets…’ But since I have the mobile number of one of the coppers now I think I’ll supply them with some footage if I get chance to film/photograph it…

brilliant, you are my hero for the day

Newbie to the forum here, although been riding in London for the last 3 or so years. Hello all.

Thing that really annoys me is cars, and it’s usually minicab MPVs with those TFL must be pre-booked signs, that cross the line at a stop sign and sit in the area marked for bicycles. I know us bikers shouldn’t be using them either, but as we out accelerate them and reduce congestion as a result, I can live with doing so as long as I give priority to actual cycles. And don’t get caught.

Anyway, told one such minicaber in Clapham North last week, in as nice a way as possible, that ‘these boxes here with the big picture of a bicycle are actually meant for bicycles, not minicabs.’ Chap stared at me blankly with distain, like I’d just insulted his whole family but didn’t quite understand the insult. Maybe he’ll work it out for himself soon.

Conversely, I always wave an arm or leg at any motorist who pulls to the side to make room for me. Going down the M40 last weekend in a large acceded-caused jam, I pretty much had one arm up the whole way, such was the consideration of all the drivers. They’re not all bad!

I did a cracking overtake on the A355 the other day. Car coming the other way failed to appreciate it though, flashing his lights wildly as if to say “It’s me, it’s me!”, or that I may have failed to notice his ungainly and unsightly people carrier.

Completing my manouver with plenty of time and a lovely safety margin to boot, I took my time to wave politely at him. I can only hope he went home fuming and took it out on his cats or family.

When I get the chance I like to point out to people that their idicators are located on their steering colum.
