I thought I was parking in a solo motorcycle bay
-
When I arrived in the morning, there were bikes to either side
-
The line showing the end of the bay had a bike on it, so I didn’t realise I was outside the motorcycle bay
-
The sign that I was in a residents bay is way off to the left (whereas the notice of the solo motorcycle bay is much closer) - see photo attached I merged two pictures hence the weird look!
The bay is at 129 Park Street, Southwark, London (51°30’25.3"N 0°05’41.6"W)
Would be great to get a considered view…
The issue here is not that you were parked outside the motorcycle bay but that you were parked inside the clearly marked permit holders only bay.

I doubt that lines hidden by another vehicle would wash as a defence. Fwiw there are a few other bays nearby that dont fill up so early.
You lose nothing by appealing - but gut feel is you will lose. They are cnts, the world knows their cnts and it’s the way of the world.
Pay up and be sure to give a traffic warden the finger everytime you see one for the next couple of years. That’s my approach (after losing a similarish appeal)

I have a good friend who appeals EVERYTHING. Nine times out of ten he is successful because it is a commercial decision at their end whether to put the man-hours into answering your appeal.
Also, check all the paperwork very carefully. He usually finds something contradictory, or the street name spelled wrong, or similar. Again, small technicalities like this would probably not hold up in court but they will take a commercial decision on whether it is worth risking a court case if they’ve made a spelling error.

I appealed on the grounds that the lines were incorrect and so relied on the closest signs, and guess what, it got cancelled…
