an (ex)mate managed to drop my cbr600 off its centre stand. After I’d owned it for less than 24 hours. :w00t::w00t::w00t:
Apart from a broken brake lever, scuffed mirror and dented can, the fairing the indicator’s mounted on is cracked. Rather than paying an arm and a leg for someone else to plastic weld it (I’m a newbie, who knows what’s gonna happen in the next 6 months!), someone told me the other day I could just use a soldering iron to melt/seal the crack.
Anyone else done this before? Could you use something like a car fibreglass repair kit on the inside of the fairing?
My main aim is to repair the crack (another tap and the indicator is coming off) rather than repainting for the time being…
Just use gaffa tape thats what my bikes held together atm
I have been told you can use a soldeing iron and some plastic weld stuff so and going to try that on my bike before i put it back on the road in december after getting my self banned for six months
happy trying and if it goes well can you let me know please
What he said but i’d use a piece of scrap ABS as filler rod rather than a cabletie.:)Cable ties are made from a Polyamide called Nylon66 which does not meld well with ABS fairing material. It would produce a weaker joint than if you used ABS.
