i got my fz1 only few months ago but ( aside of it being temporarily unavailable for use for me) after the initial uh and ah, the bike disappointed me. don’t get me wrong, it’s a beautifull bike, rides like a dream, but the engine is so dull. there is no spark in that body! i read it loses as much as 20bhp somewhere in the rev range compared to fzs1000. most importantly, it loses where it actually matters i was impressed by fzs even though it wasn’t perfect, but fz1 is not of any improvement over the older model i was actually anticipating and bought the bike for.an ivan fuel cut eliminator to get 10bhp and get rid of hesitating throttle will be £150, graves intakes - £55 for 4bhp, power commander, air filter and a pipe and… hey presto! is it worth spending another £800 so the bike actually works like… fzs1000? :w00t:sell or mod? how about this?
did you not test ride it first??
test ride is one thing and learning what a bike is really like is another, imo. when you try something for the first time it won’t be the same for the second time, will it? that’s 'cos it’s new and you haven’t done such thing before. you need to learn it.
what i’m saying is that after fzs i was expecting the same, only better. but fz1’s engine doesn’t belong there. it’s a bloody 1000cc but pulls like a baby pram. fz1 has the potential and it is possible to semi-easily get 150 rwhp, but why would anyone have to do so many mods to get a bike right when it should have been like that when it hit the showrooms?
and i don’t care about touring, tank range, comfy seat, etc. as a 1000cc naked, fz1 dissappoints.
You make me glad that i’ve hung onto my 1st gen Fazer. Funny just last week was in a bike accessory shop & 1 of the guys was telling me that his friend had just bought the 1st gen Fazer, because in his words “it’s a better bike”.
i used to work for a yamaha dealer and found the fz1 absolutly dreadful, no midrange at all, and the idea of having to rev a litre bike like a 600 kind of defeats the point of having a litre bike. the fuel injection was apalling, with such a bad snatch going from a closed throttle to slightly open that it started to cause me back pain from the repeated jerkyness… so much so that when my boss at the time asked me to go to alesbury i took a 12 year old vfr750 instead! the old fazer thou engine is far superior, pulls like a train from almost no revs. infact, i even felt that the fz6 is a much better bike. p.s, i now work at an aprilia dealer (southern cross motorcycles) and we have a tuono demo bike (its ******* awesome!) if you fancy a test ride, give us a bell 0207 625 1125
on the other hand, i’m hoping to sell fz1, so hopefully there won’t be many people put off by my post…
i have a ride arranged with experience aprilia in couple of weeks, but reckon i’ll want another one if the bike is as good as people say it is. big bang firing order makes me wet myself anyway
btw, do you do 0% finance?
I’ll gladly take it off your hands in exchange for my 600 Bandit with only 3 indicators and no silencer:)
Bit late now . . . as Fraser would say . . . We’re doooooooomed . . .
damn your generous …
Wlodek - I would thoroughly recommend the Tuono buddy - Had quite a few Litre bikes over the passed couple of years and I can lay my hand on my heart and say that not one has been as much fun as my Tuono . It is on map two with twin Akras but to be honest - even as a standard bike it is just sooooo much of a " grin machine " - try one , you will love it
