Only a matter of time i suppose
As pointed out last night on Top gear, a typical fuel lorry now carries in excess of £50,000 worth of petrol or diesel.
I missed top gear. When is the repeat?
use iplayer… should be able to watch it online for another 6 days… i too missed it!
urgghh, scum of the earth…
The rising cost of petrol is a huge concern… what worries me is that Gordon Brown is insisting that the OPEC countries increase supply, rather than looking at the tax policies of the UK govt where petrol is probably the most expensive in the world…I understand the arguements around tax and being able to pay for govt expenditure, and also the envinronmental arguement that petrol should be taxed to create a detterent, but for me this tax is now disproportionately affecting the middle and working class people, while the rich people arnt arsed about it because they can still afford the petrol regardless…
breath Rant Over.
What b@stards, some`s like pikeys.
Agreed, I dont think the usual supply / demand economics are at work here, more greed orientated. There is no point in increasing supply when it is already being taxed at 70%. Fuel in this country, before tax is the cheapest in europe (I believe?). Says a lot. Ok about paying tax if “re-spent” in the correct areas, rather than lining the already wealthy MP’s pockets. breathe blood starting to boil
This shows how Gordon Brown’s brain works: His argument about fuel prices and taxation is that as the price of oil rises the %age of taxation goes down! Of course he is absolutely right but its a peculiar way of trying to convince people he hsa no responsibility.
They wont drop the tax…yet. That would mean giving in to the populace and that we as voters actually have an opinion that counts. HA! Too much money being made by the top bosses for the taxes to be dropped or even change the way VAT is applied to fuel. 17.5% on top of the duty. Comparison: Poll Tax. It wasn’t the riots that changed the government policy on it, but the fact the fat cats and Tory farmers were getting stung and stung hard. You wait and see about the taxation of motor vehicles, see how long that actually lasts…Once they realise that they aren’t able to claim it all back on expenses…Rant, raveClimb down off soap box
Perhaps this is the start of the (predicted) Mad Max society - with people clobbering each other for fuel etc - ![]()
On the other hand if we’re all as ingenious and adaptive as we think we are we’ll start moving over to alternatives to oil - Honda have just produced a commercially available hydrogen powered saloon car

and for us lot there’s the possibility of bikes like the hydrogen fuel cell powered crosscage…

That motorcycle’s sooo pretty! Even if the engine block does look a bit like my toaster…
Really angers me that poor family torn apart by theives:angry: When i was a kid we had our fuel tanks on the farm emptied several times by travellers bleedin gits will nick anything, stopped us getting cattle to market one day cos they’d stolen the cattle grid at the end of our lane!:w00t: countrys f*cked it’s everyone for themselves nowadays reminds me of mad max…oh the price of fuel:blink:

Doesn’t it just show you what this country has become…Everyone feels they have the god given right to rip you off and get away with it and if you try to stop them, that’s wrong! Oh and you are not allowed to tell them that they are wrong cos that makes you wrong…:S Think of the poor little mites feelings as you are discriminating against them by telling them no…
I really feel for this family. The b4stards that did it should have their hands removed and no entitlement to state aid!!
This is probably just the start! Oil is being used faster than its being found, in fact there’s less to find as all the large oilfields have been discovered. The less there is of something and the higher demand for it = higher price!
Hydrogen is,although plentiful, difficult to distribute store safely.
Biofuel would take so much space to grow that other crops would suffer, and we already have a world food shortage.
By increasing tax on fuel is not going to save the planet,it will have run out long before the planet overheats!
So get good locks on your fuel caps to fend off the ever increasing theiving scum and enjoy the fuel while you can.
Mad Max is a coming!!!
Any of you left doing dirty hands work?
A lot of building site plant vehicles have large fuel tanks, 50 to 150 gallons, depending on the kit.
Despite some of the plant never being on the road, not much qualifies for red diesel, it’s all bought retail and the VAT claimed back. Whoopee. The customer pays, the government takes the dosh.
Fuel thefts from building site plant are now a serious problem and locked fillers are no real deterent. Plenty of cases of tanks being punched or drilled.
Life seems to get more interesting as each year passes.
what do you expect when we got an UN-elected skirt wearing jockney toerag in number 10 ? your boss leaves do you just wander in and say…thanks im now the boss and tuff luck to you minions, the tax could be reduced by at least 20p a litre and they still make a fortune, and what about the tw@t in the west country profeteering £1.99 a litre the other week, should be up in court imo hope his garage gets boycotted
oooh my head aching now need more medication
I saw a bit of the ONE Show last night (normally avoid it like the plague having grown up with Nationtrite on every evening). They were interviewing people who had their cars drained of fuel simply by somone punching ascrewdriver or similar into the bottom of the car. They get away with £40 of fuel and you end up with a £600 repair bill.
