You are correct as well in the diesel is more lubricating and that excessive petrol can be detrimental to a diesel system in terms of seals and lubricating . The petrol will burn things like injector tips badly and seeps into the oil system as well and creates a flushing oil more than lubrication.
Wrong fuels can destroy catylitic convertors and lamba sensors and send a vehicles ecu into limp mode and knock sensors have hissy fits .
And with a bike generally the filler is able to take varying nozzles .
Best case I’ve dealt with for tenacity was a bmw z4 driver who had filled his with diesel …petrol engine .
Asked how he had done so due to filler sizes … he explained it was a bit of a struggle but managed to force it to point it broke the filler nozzle to allow him to fill with diesel .
How it unfolded :
I decided to go to work this morning on my bike and try out my new hand.
Went up the A 21 on had 1/4 tank of fuel, so silly bollock topped up with diesel, and yes Timmy high octane diesel looks a lot like unleaded at 6am on Sunday morning.
I took off and down the road I lost power, looked back at the zorst and saw blue smoke. On shitting myself I stopped.
AA came out and took me home.
I remove my tank, tipped the diesel out , gave it a little wash out with petrol, suck the tank on with more petrol and turned it over around 10-15 time with it sparking and dying with smoke bellowing.
And the like a beast it is it fired up. With the smoke disappearing it now runs perfect!!
So now you know!
Wow that first pic of your hand still makes my balls shrink up into my stomach. Hope you get better soon - have you already thought of a good story for the scar?
