Morning o wise and merciful LBers. I know there are a few of you on here who pluck the strings occasionally. A friend of mine has asked me to play guitar at his wedding, with a friend of his fiancee providing the vocals. I am a reasonable guitarist but no Hendrix.
Anyone got any ideas for simple songs that sound good with just vocal & acoustic guitar and that are simple to learn? Oh and aren’t about death, divorce, termination of a relationship etc etc.
We’re currently doing More than Words by Extreme and Somewhere over the Rainbow by Eva Cassidy. Note these are not my choices but apparently an acoustic version of Back in Black is “not the right tone”.
go for clapton Wonderful tonight - great song and it will get the groom great kudos if he is all moochey with the new wife during the song on the dance floor.
Not to poop on your parade, but isn’t More Than Words about someone who is narked that their partner has to say I Love You because their actions don’t say it well enough…?
Y&MS is their leaving the venue song. HTD might work.I did, in fact point that out, as this is the kind of thing that really annoys me (like people who have every breath you take (which is about stalking) as their first dance, similarly Iris by The Goo Goo Dolls. Born in the USA appropriated by Ronnie Reagan) but this was brushed aside. Shrug Don’t Shoot Me I’m Only The Guitar Player.
