im paying £700 for CBT, test fees, 8 lessons with hire of bike and clothing (if required). been told this sounds about right…maybe slightly cheaper elsewhere though. or if you don’t need the CBT (already have one valid)
for the final test i haven’t done mine yet but im sure its like a car test so will be someone else from the DSA and not your trainer.
as for the cc of the bike mines on a 500cc which i think is what it needs to be for you to then be able to ride anything you want providing you pass.
£800!!! bloody hell!..thats alot! man what am i gonna do! so it must be around £700 for me as i’ve done my CBT…jesus! i idin’t know it would be that much…
£800?? i said £700. for you if you’ve got your valid CBT already it would cost you at the place im doing mine £580. however they also do a PAYG scheme which is £75 per 125cc or 500cc, 3 hour lessons. then just £120 for the module 1 and 2 tests (again inc hire of bike, insurance, fuel, clothing etc).
bear in mind though that this school is in milton keynes and different schools in different areas will have different prices/offers.
I did a 4-day course recently and it was £640. In hindsight I could of done a 3 day course for about £500ish because I was competent enough etc but didnt know that at the time of booking!2. 3-5 whole days including your test. You can decide how many days you need based upon your ability. Better to pay for an extra one and get it right first time than have to re-sit…3. The practical elements of the test (parts 1 and 2 (carried out on seperate days) are assessed by a DVLA examiner and unlike the CBT it is not someone from your training school.4. 500cc.
hello and yes im talking about horizon. im training there myself (had my CBT a couple of weeks ago and this weekend had my first 2 lessons on the 500). more lessons next weekend then the following weekend is my module 1!
yeah its a great location to learn. I originally did my CBT (although 8 years ago and on a moped) there as well so thought best just to head there again.
and yep im from mk. working in london so commuting’s a pain…but its all about the bmx, lol:)
had my CBT with Nick - typical biker type guy - bet if u had him he went on about his ‘racing bikes on the west coast’ days etc…
had most my actual lessons with Marcus though, great guy as well and a good instructor!..
the only annoying thing about MK is our lack of proximity to test centres…part1 in leighton buzzard aint so bad, but part2 in kettering was a biatch…failed part2 first time round as well, so really wasn’t too happy about that!..
well hope it goes well for you!..do you A5 down to London then, or M1 it?..
gotta say we’re very fortunate with the roads we have here…can’t think of any other UK town that has 60pmh+ inner city road speed limits…serious thrashing to be done…especially at night!!
yeah I had nick for my cbt. We had a couple of lads on mopeds as well so had another instructer although I can’t remember his name!
And yep, marcus was my instructer yesterday, like you say a very good guy and teacher. Today though it was Martin who once again was a good teacher…all in all looks like a good setup they got there. Think it’s change hands since my CBT 8 years ago but at least they’ve still got good instructers.
As for my commute into London…currently on the ol skool bmx! Lol. Can’t be bothered with driving and the congestion charge. The bmx and train combo serves it’s purpose plus it’s a bit of exercise!
Mine cost about £400, it’s cheaper on a 1252. No, but I did mine in 33. You will have an independant person from the test centre that will do your test with you.4. I did mine on a 125, and it’s cheaper on your own bike.Questions are not silly…If you pass on a 125, you will be restricted for 2 years, but at least you can ride anything up to 33bhp without L plates. It does not stop you getting a big bike, all you have to do is get it restricted
Just to clarify, DAS (“A” licence) is not the same as getting an “A2” licence - you take the test for your DAS on a bigger bike than a 125 (“A” test requires bike over 46.6bhp) so you cannot ride to the test or get practice on the roads without an approved instructor. The A2 licence lets you ride a 125 bike on L-plates The A2 licence lets you ride a bigger bike if it is restricted to 33bhp… Therefore most people have to take lessons and use the training school’s bike while doing their DAS and test. If you go down this route and fail either module 1 or module 2 you will need to pay for bike hire at least as well as the cost of a retest.
Here is what I’d recommend if you aren’t in a rush to get on a bigger bike:
Do you CBT and get a 125 and some L-plates.
Do lots of research about riding on the roads (road-positioning, procedures, safety info, etc) and maybe take a few lessons on your own 125 - try and get on some 125/learner-legal ride-outs, meet as many other riders as you can, ask questions about anything you’re not sure about.
Book your own test, research more into what happens on the test (there are DSA and non-official videos all over youtube for this) and practice practice practice
Pass your test!
If you want a bigger bike, you can then buy one restricted to 33bhp (I think restrictor kits are usually £100-200 to buy and fit but not sure on that) and ride that around. Remove the restrictor after 2 years. During the 2 years you can do an “advanced access” course that will get you up to an A licence so you can go unrestricted sooner.
Mine cost me about £475 if I remember correctly.2. 3-5 days I think, I done a 3 day DAS, not sure if they have to be in a row but mine were.3. You instructor won’t do the test part of your day, it will be an examiner from your local test center.4. I done mine on an ER 500 but as has been siad I think you can do it on a 125.Just to add as well, don’t be scared to get onto a bigger bike, I actually found the ER 500 easier to ride than the 125, felt more stable to ride.Good luck
