Da Fuq?

Yup theft aspect and repair expense as well

I didnt know that braided hoses upgraded performance…Think its best to just get new rubber hoses?

braking performance. old rubber hoses can expand under pressure, so losing braking efficiency, braided steel ones don’t…

Motorcycle Direct said nothing to me when I insured the Ratracker … Has it got any modifications sir ? Well yes as it happens … and I reeled off the extensive list . It made naff all difference to the quote . … All she said was … "You been busy aint ya "

its mostly because people who want better brakes are assumed to be going faster.
The kit porvided by the manufacturer is more than adequate to meet British Roasd Safety standards.
The only reason for upgrading your braking potential is you that you are upgrading your speed and need upgraded braking… simple. You upgrade your lines and tell the insurer, they tick the box “Goes Faster” which at the bottom of their spreadsheet raises your risk leel and therefore premiums…

Or it could just be that the old lines are looking a bit tired and new Goodridge ones are only about half the price of new Aprilia ones

+1. That to me is common sense. Insurance is out to have sex with your wallet. Nothing wrong with going braided. Still can’t see how braided lines makes a bike more attractive theft wise, or faster than what it already is.

there are things I wouldn’t do without having braided lines, so I can see their point in crossing the tick box “goes faster”. It does improve braking quite well, so you tend to be a bit more risky

Just don’t tell them because that’s the way the bike came when you bought it, are you an expert on modifications to bikes or are you simply a person who wants transport, if they ask tell them to send someone round who can tell the difference between factory stock and performance upgrades, surely it’s up to the insurance co. to be 100% certain that it’s non modded, how would you know it’s not fitted with GPz 305 barrels and pistons.

teams of highly skilled people at honda , suzuki , ect got to great lenghts to produce an all round package? a bike that will handle well, stop well, and go well, and be reliable, they have vast budgets to this end if you wanna do mods to your bike then better off making them worth while like crash bungs to save damage ect, the hoses that are fitted as standard on these machines are well up to the job, as for insurance companys they will exploit any thing that will make them money after all they are there to do just that make money! usually when you start screwing around with some of these things it has a knock on effect? like the poss of blowing the seals in ya master cylinder? one of my mates is for ever trying to improve on what has already been done by the big companys, in the end it costs him more time and money and he gains very little out of it, of course doing any mods to ur bike is always a personal choice/thing, and what people wanna spend thier hard earned cash on is up to them?

Rubber hoses are factory issue because they are CHEAP

On my bike braided lines made the world of difference. This is the first bike I’ve put braided lines on and it is now the first thing I’d do on my bike along with a can.
