Current situation regarding cbts and motor bike tests

I’m sure every one knows there is currently no rider training, tests or cbts in this current lockdown.
Tests can still be booked so I like every one else iv moved all my student to december and January. Fingers crossed
Ride safe

Yet MOT testing is still taking place.

As I am considered “extremely vulnerable” the government have written to say I should only go out for medical appointments and exercise. Yet they are also sending me messages saying I need to get an MOT by the end of the month.

My mate had a full test booked for the first week in December and it’s now been moved to January. Considering he had one booked for the original lockdown I hope he actually manages to get to take it this time.

Car tests booked during this lockdown were cancelled and people told to rebook. Next available tests in our area are March 21.

From a previous email from the DVSA cbts, training and tests can start again from 3rd December BUT unsure how the tier system will effect this.
Watch this space.

Closed again, no teaching no testing no cbts further updates on 30th december.

Stay safe

Also worth mentioning that MOTs are still taking place under tier 4 restrictions.

Although I got my bike back and approved all the way back when we were still in tier 2, last Tuesday. Just in time for the move into tier 3 and not being able to use it.

I am back in pseudo-shielding, i.e. given the same advice as shielding but the government will not call it that because then they would have to provide assistance to people.

Have you seen the first question Boris was asked about shielders being expected to go to work (in the tier 4 announcement the other day) It’s a masterpiece of not having a clue how to answer and just saying words hoping they make a sentence.

The worst about that was he does not know his own rules. He seemed appalled at the idea of someone extremely vulnerable being required to go into work, yet that is the government’s own advice.

It is the same as for everyone else, work from home if possible but if not you should still attend work regardless of tier. There is no legal protection for vulnerable people against an employee expecting them to come in.

Mind, it was also pretty bad that Whitty, let alone any journalist, did not pick him up on it.

It is now different under tier four because shielding rules apply here, do not go to a workplace, but in the rest of the country vulnerable people still need to attend else risk losing their job despite what Johnson said.

For reference, I have now received my official shielding notification from Hancock and Jenrick which states:

Advice summary

The advice states that you should stay at home as much as possible but are encouraged to go outdoors carefully to exercise or to attend health appointments. You are strongly advised to work from home if you can. If you cannot work from home, then you should not attend work. You may be eligible for the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (furlough). This letter is a formal shielding notification and can act as evidence for your employer to show that you cannot work outside your home until 18 January 2021, including for statutory sick pay (SSP) purposes.

This advice will apply in your area until 18 January 2021, even if your area is placed in a different tier before then. If the advice is to continue beyond that date, we will write to you again with further information.

Interesting to see an end date as I had not heard one mentioned before. I would imagine that means London is very unlikely to go down a tier (and so no bike lessons or tests) before then either.

So another day another lockdown and as expected no training no tests not even cbts either this time. I’m moving all my Jan and Feb students to March and April fingers crossed
Stay safe

Today’s update from the dvsa, not alot to be honest. No definite dates to begin training, tests or cbts.
Poss 12th April poss the end of April.
My heart goes out to all those who have called trying to renew their cbts as they need their bikes for work 1 guy today asking what he can do after being stopped by plod with an out of date cbt. Bike confiscated and court action pending.
Remember if your cbt expires dont be tempted to ride your bike as both your insurance and license will be invalid.

This is affecting my brother. He’s finished his cbt, theory and mod 1 and is just waiting on his mod 2. So many people rely on cbt’s to get to and from work, possibly some key workers included. I can’t quite understand why motorcycle training and tests can’t continue, they are and can be socially distanced with ease. I would argue it’s an essential service and one with minimal risks in regards to catching covid.

As a minimum it would be a piece of p*ss to simply state that all existing CBTs have an additional 6 months before they need replacing - just as they did with MOTs.

Key workers ending up in court / fined when none of this is their doing…

Similar to my mate, been waiting to do the full test since this time last year.
Fortunately for him, he managed to renew his CBT just before it all went tits up.

I thought key workers could still train and do exams/tests or was that the first lock down only?

Key workers could during the 1st lockdown, not so much this time round.

Current lockdown no tests are allowed, even for Key workers. Know that from both a driving instructor and a motorbike instructor. Both the guys I spoke to did a bit of work in LD1 but nothing in LD3.

And of course - there is then going to be a huge backlog to get through as we’ve had 12 months of people turning 16/17 and with little training going on.

At least the trade can make hay if/when they are allowed to, hopefully not too long now.

Unless the government’s coronavirus data for England prevents the easing of restrictions as part of step 1 of the roadmap, we intend that from 29 March 2021 in England you can take:
a CBT
motorcycle lessons with instructors
a bus driving lesson and test
a tractor test

If step 2 of the government roadmap is confirmed on 5 April, from 12 April 2021 in England, you can take:
car, lorry driving lessons with instructors and lorry tests
theory tests
a motorcycle test

If step 2 of the government roadmap is confirmed on 5 April, from 22 April 2021 in England:
car driving tests will restart

Yep open again from the 29th March for lessons and cbt, tests to restart from 12th april
