well if all goes well, should have my DAS in jan and then the hunt for the bike begins! Unfortunately as i live in a flat, finding a place to park it seems to be the real challenge. The only place in my car park which could take a bike is also the main area for dogs/cats/drunks/crackheads/prossies go to do their business, so thats a no go…and then youve got the shitfaces who love to just vandalise as they see fit, so it seems my only option is to find a garage to park it in…
are there people in similar situations? apart from employing round the clock snipers is ther anything else u can do? the bike cover thing wont work, all it does is give the shitfaces something flamable to play with… one idea i had was to set up some kinda "share-a-rented-garage "kinda thing, but its a case of fidning people u trust not to steal ur bike/car/grandma when ur not around… sigh what to do?
I would buy something worth not more than £200, an NTV I guess, and not miss it if it goes. Mate, you can’t leave a good bike out for a night. It will go.
Best to approach the local council and try to rent a garage from them.
Where I live they had a really long waiting list that wasn’t moving but as I knew there were some vacant garages I pursued it and kept nagging. Eventually I got to speak to one of the managers and it turns out the council didn’t have a budget to return them to the right state to re-let them. I told them I would sign a waiver and take a garage in it’s current condition and it worked. I got a garage that was full of some dead mans stuff, has no electricity any more (although I’m sure it can be re-instated) and is too small for my car!!! Perfect for a couple of bikes though and all for less than £7 a week
SheWoolf’s got the right idea, I’d say approach your local council or speak to a friend/relative who lives in the area if possible. It depends though, if your going to be a Sunday rider than a friend or relative close by isn’t such a bad idea but if you plan to ride everyday then your only real option, by the sound of things, is to speak to the council…
If you live in such dodgy area, then you might find that either insurers will refuse to quote you unless you’ve got it garaged, or else that they’ll give you a big reduction in quote if you’re garaged. I live in SE1, and that’s the case for me (but luckily we have a locked and alarmed bike shed attached to our flats that I can use).
If it’s the same for you, then it might actually SAVE you cash to rent a garage.
Oh, and I suppose you’ve already checked local newsagent’s windows for people advertising garages to let.
yup benelli boy, been looking at the windows of local (and not so local) agents trying to see if there are any to rent…and there website which i cant find the adress of anymmore which let you search within a certain radius of ur post code (im just up the road from u in se17), may be the best option at the mo. ALso did call up the insurace and it only seemed to make a differnce when looking at the 600cc bikes from 3grand down to 1300 bargin! when looking at the 400s (what im hoping to get) insurance was about 600(but thats was from only calling on company so i reckon i can get it a bit lower…) and it would have gone down by about 100 if i had a garage …
Will defo give the council a call and see if i can speak to the person in charge of parking shewolf lol, see if anyone has died/wants to be dead around the time i get my bike.
wlodek, even if the bike was worth 25 pounds it would **** me off the scale that some one had laid thier finger on it…lol so that is not an option, but i get where u comming from,
