Corkscrew at Alton Towers down

The corkscrew at Alton Towers is being dismantled. Last run will be on 9/11/08. A sad day for British theme parks. I remember the excitement I felt going there for the first time in the early 80’s…scariest ride in Europe at the time. I’m almost tempted to pop up there for one more go on the old girl, although I’m not sure the seat restraints will fit over my over large body these days…

Still not as much fun as a fast bike though:)

Ive only been on it once, so i wont miss it.

How times have changed. I remember as a kid being in complete awe of the corkscrew. Now at AT it is dwarfed my so many other rides, and they have a lower hight limit on the corkscrew than most of the other big rides, so younger kids can ride it. It feels crude and bumpy and not that high any more…:crying:

But things move on…bigger and better rides are needed!!

Never been to AT although I do find rollorcoasters exciting.
Always vowed if I won the lottery that I’d d a round the world trip with the sole intention of trying out all the best rollercoasters.

Its still a cracking roller coaster though! When does Alton Towers shut for the winter? I’ve not been for about 2 years, and used to love going as a teenager!!

Been many many times to AT, I remember when the Corkscrew was a NEW ride!

The park closes on the 2nd Nov, but has a special event for the closing of the Corkscrew.
