whent to garage today cos back brake is makin a grindin noise, He said i need the wheel off to apply copper slip is this right ? ? Oh straight after her told me i need new pads… … …Not sure gonna try copper slip first is it true or do i just smear that stuff all over the brakes ? ?
Also would itbe totaly harmfull; if i smeared it all over myself and did the worm ??? greasy.
Err no :ermm:…best not to just smear grease all over your brakes , if you need new pads then you need new pads just have a look and see but either way a thin smear of copper-slip only on the back plate will stop em squeeling as they move against the pistons
A grinding noise normally would indicate metal against metal ie your pads are fooked and your disks will be soon if your not carefull .
I wanna learn but i don’t have a centre stand and i can’t find a paddock stand to fit the bonnie exhaust i recon i cud do iteasy with a manual i used to work on my cars all the time but this is awkward without a stand.
The bloke’s taking the p*ss in a big way!!! If I was you, I’d stear well clear of that guy from now on! You don’t need too take the rear wheel off, and new pads are only about £15, plus a few quid for a tin of copper slip from Halfords! Go to J+S in Greenwich to get the pads, they usually have plenty of stock etc…If you get stuck, drop me a P.M. and I’ll come and give you a hand, seeing as you’re not that far from me anyway… ;)Out of interest, who quoted you £150?
Erm feel bad sayin it was metropolis in greenwich thanks for the offer of help mate will definatly take you up on that if and when i get stuck…
I invested in a full new set of tools today should be here any day now i’m gonna reasearch paddock stands for bonnies with ridiculously good looking owners. . . .
Oh its 90 quid an hour labour on triumphs so i can see why it wud cost so much at their pricing i just wanna make a savin here … quite like metropolis as a company really.
As said before, not too sure if you need to get the rear wheel off of the ground for this job… although before I got the paddock and abba stand for the ninja I did manage to raise the rear wheel a couple of times with an axle stand and trolley jack :w00t:
Exactly what me and my limited experience was thinking - had new pads, sparkplug and a new air filter (plugs and filter both easy access) fitted a couple of weeks ago, £53 for parts and labour, from a Honda dealer.Name and shame dude, name and shame
At the very worst, if you wanted to get it done properly, for a proper price, go to Essential Rubber on Downham Road, Hackney. It’ll cost around about £30 for the pads and fitting, and you don’t even need to get your hands dirty!
However, you’ll feel a nice sense of acheivement when you do them yourself, and the offer is still there if you want a hand mate!
I’m actually still quite shocked that they were going to charge you £150 for a new set of pads to be fitted! I’ve paid much less for new tyres to be fitted in the past! I think they were trying it on mate!
The wheel doesn’t even need to come off!!! You’re being quoted for for something that doesn’t need to be done! A half decent mechanic would take about 10-15 minutes to replace a set of pads, as well as giving the caliper’s a bit of a clean!
Which, at £90 an hour labour, makes £22.50 maximum labour, so they are charging at least £127.50 for the pads!Whichever way you look at it - its a rip off
Thats it i’m gonna start charging the girls…welding 3 holes on 2 exhausts cost me £10.00 in materials , buying , collecting and fitting a bandit engine cost me about £100 , etc…etc…etc…
i could be a rich man
