Continental Tyres

Has anyone had any experience with Continental sport attack tyres and road attack tyres? I’ve been recommended them for my CBR F sport. I’ve had loads of people recomending all sorts of diffrent tyres to me and I’m now starting to get really confused. I have looked into Bt014 and BT020, also michelin pilot power and pilot sport tyres.

What I’m looking for are some grippy tyres that will last for a good few mile. I have the Dunlop D207’s on at the moment and they just don’t feel very good in the wet, although I have got 5-6000 miles out of them.

HELP!!! lol.

Tire choice is a very personal, and highly opinionated arena. One truth though that seems a common theme when talking to people about tires, is that Dunlops suck ass, they’re vague and uninspiring. My personal fav is Pirelli’s, though the Continentals are a new tire on the scene, from a manufacturer that isn’t proven in the sports-bike world, so it’s a bit of a gamble, but at this time of year, it’s not like you’re going to be demanding the best these tires can provide, performance wise.

As winter is coming up and as a result of my lowside i don’t think I’ll be trying to wear down the chiken strips lol. Maybe a good time to experiemnt

Your safe and expensive choice is the Bridgestones… Thats pretty much the fact you’ll find from most…

I love my new ones…

Just swapped my trusty and much loved BT020s for Continental Road Attacks. Only done a few hundred so not a full test, but so far so indistinguishable. They’re cheaper too.

And they’ve got a fancy ‘Road Attack’ logo sunken into the tyre surface so they’ll leave a top pattern behind if you ride through a puddle!

Prob be up the Ace Friday night so come up and check’em out.

hehehe thats what I like about the continentals, the pattern looks good

I’m going to have to ring around and see what I can get at what prices.

project9928, where were you going in your avatar picture? Looks like a long ride with that much gear!

It was a nice long ride up to Scotland with my friend adam who rides an SV650. I can put some pics of the trip up if you want?

Yes please! There’s a fair bit of trips/tour photo sets being posted up, join in

ok you’ll have to give me a bit to sort them out

As stated above it’s a personal thing. I swear by Diablo Corsa’s as they are a good mix between sport and road tyre, have a half decent wear rate and I’ve NEVER had a fuzzy feeling as I have had many times on the Dunlops, especially when riding hard.

Oops… I’m lying… but a banana peel was part of that story.

Cheap as chips at www.fwr.co.uk just don’t let them fit the tyre. Read the post in the “name and shame them” section.

I failed to find any legitimate ones at a better price.

From what I have heard from both Tard and sportbike riders the continental’s are supposed to be very good, although I’ve never used them myself.

I’m currently using a Pirelli Diablo on the rear of my SMC and I love 'it. Good grip and wear quiet well, although a Motard has a very diff weight and power delivery to a sportsbike. SO far I have put about 1500 miles on them and they look good.

I have used an Avon AV50 Pro Series rear as well which gripped very well for the first 1000 miles, but the KTM had ripped them to shreads in 1400 miles!!!

On the Front I have an Avon Pro Rain Extreme which is the tard weapon of choice on the front, they grip like nothing else and last ages, 3500 and counting ; ), but don’t know anyone thats used them on a sports bike. Forget one on the rear thou as 500-800 wear limit max!!!

TBH I love Diablo Corsa’a have BT 014’s on my C1 but when its time to change its back to pirelli. But the new Pilot Powers are getting a good write up. decisions decisions

Well I made up my mind today and decided to go with the Bridgestone BT020’s, I phoned up the guy who does the mobile tyre fitting at the ace. He said £194 and he would come to my work and do the tyre change during my lunch brake lol can’t argue with that.

The BT020 is really what I’m looking for as it should give good grip, be good in the wet and last quite long which is good due to going back and forth from work.

So tis all sorted now

Thanks everyone for giving me an idea of what the other tyres are like. Maybe in the summer I’ll give the Diablos a go

Heard really mixed reports about them (conti’s that is), haven’t heard anyone slate Diablos tbh. According to someone i know with an R1 they seem to change characteristics a lot - not just with temperature, they seem to like being ridden hard, if you ride slow they feel like they are going to wash out. Love BT020’s on my truck, good wet & dry

To be honest I tried an 020 on the rear of my 96 Blade and never had any trouble with them at all and got really good wear out of them, although I used an 010 on th front for extra grip

I would’ve gone for 020’s again but according to the fitter they aren’t recommended fitment for the 7R. Thanks to PDQ in Taplow for fitting them last time

If the insurance companies checked after an accident… no claim.

But they’re a top tyre, I got nearly 9k outta mine inc the sometimes off-road sections from my trip (see gallery or website).

Well there fited now, just have to scrub them in to see what there really like. Lol I’ll be having hugh chicken strips on them for a while

I completly forgot about geting the 010 tyre on the front DOH! well I’ll see how I get on with the pair and then maybe change them next time.

Thanks again everyone

Project9928, how the guy will balance your wheels? Can they do it outside of the garage? I wouldn’t go for changing the tyres without balancing the wheels afterwards.

It doesn’t take alot of effort to balance wheels…

I am sure Ride magazine had a DIY section in their last issue…

The tools used could be used in a Van.
