The TfL website says I need to get my bike registered for 100% exemption - is this right ? I thought bikes were exempt anyway ?
Cheers, Steve

“Motortricycle” is not dyslexic for “Motorcycle”
I’d bet a couple of quid that if the winkers from TFL could find a way yo get some parking money from you they would. But I’m not sure if bikes are there yet with Ken & Co.
Our elusive Lord Mayor has no plans to introduce the Kengestion charge to two-wheelers for the forseeable future, so you’re safe for now!

Err yeah thats right, checked out their web site a while ago to confirm as I was planning a trip and wanted to go by bike.
There is an admin/registration fee and I think you need to take your documents with you V5 etc.
Check this out for info.

Just checked their website (for my peace of mind!) and motorbikes are exempt, and don’t need registration.

TFL are amazingly good at hiding the bit where it says motorcycles are exempt. At the bottom of the page of exemptions - well below the bit on motortricycles that seems to be interesting so many here it says -
“These other categories include: all two-wheelers, London licenced Taxis and minicabs, certain operational vehicles used by the emergency services, including HM Coastguard and Port Authorities, and certain operational vehicles used by the eight London Boroughs, either partly or wholly within the congestion charging zone, the armed forces, Royal Parks Agency and breakdown organisations.”
Note that the MP3 and other three wheelers arriing this year from the Piagio stable are legally two wheelers because the wheelbase is less than a certain limit, 22 inches or something. The motortricycle exemption was created for Stirling Moss as he rides a trike that is the size of a motorcycle but has a wheelbase of over that limit. TFL wanted to ensure that you couldn’t get round the congestion charge with a car sized vehicle that had three wheels so trikes all paid the charge until the Stirling Moss exemption was made for smaller three wheelers that registered.
Thanks for the correction
Ho well next time I will ride the bike ![]()
