Cleaning your bike cleaning brushes

After you had a proper clean of your bike, chain, etc. What’s your method of getting the used, dirty, greasy brushes clean again?

You don’t have brush cleaning brushes? :hehe:

Chain cleaning stuff gets swished in the paraffin that I use to clean the chain & wiped with a rag to dry off - it’ll only get dirty again anyway.

Old toothbrushes for the chain. Cheap enough if you use a lot.

I use cheap paint brushes and just chuck em away , poundland you can get a whole pack of em for a quid http://www.poundland.co.uk/its-diy-time-paint-brush-set-5-pieces sizes various buy a tenners worth your good for ages .

Yeah - just use paraffin.

Asda do bargain toothbrushes that I use for the chain 3 brushes for 20p and they hold up quite well

I’ve got a few muc-off brushes, which I’d rather not just chuck away and replace with 20p brushes. Compared to regular brushes, they do actually make the cleaning process easier and faster.

Same goes for the chain. I tried cleaning with toothbrushes, but it’s a bit of a pain. That’s why I got one of those oxford chain cleaning brushes that looks like a spanner. Will using paraffin on the chain make it easier to clean the brush? Does it attract less dirt, grease compared to a standard chain lube?

Petrol

I spay my chain with diesel then clean it off with old tooth brushes ,spray it and all leavers with Teflon spay & wipe off with an old tee shirt let the scot oiler do the rest which more often than not has a mixture of Morrison’s oil & diesel in it

the rest of the bike I leave in commuter camouflage that way it blends in well with its surroundings

Paraffin makes the chain gunk into liquid chain gunk - you can wipe the worst of it off the chain and brush with a rag but scrubbing a chain with a paraffin soaked brush might end up spattering you and the bike in oil if you’re not careful.

It’s only for cleaning, once the chain is clean it gets coated with chain lube anyway so it won’t keep the chain any cleaner.

I clean my chain with a Kettenmax - a bit like this http://www.getgeared.co.uk/KETTENMAX_Motorcycle_Chain_Cleaner_and_Greaser?utm_medium=shopping_feed_uk&utm_source=google you clamp it round your chain, fill the bottle with chain cleaner (or in my case paraffin, since it costs about £1 a litre) and gradually squeeze a bit of paraffin through as you rotate the chain through the brushes. Easy, clean and quick. The dirty paraffin is collected in a bottle at the bottom for you to dispose of responsible/pour on a site of special scientific interest according to your preference.

Oh, that’s pretty cool, thanks. I intially wanted to go for muc-off chain doc which looks quite similar, but could only find it for bicycle chains and in a couple of places where it was not specified which chain they were for, but hey this looks even better.
